Celebrate National Trails Day with FIHP and on our Sally Fisher Memorial Hike!👟🌞

Hike the Heights is an annual celebration of green space and communities in northern Manhattan. Established in 2005, this hike brings together community along the “Giraffe Path” stretching from Central Park to Highbridge Park and now beyond to Inwood with the Sally Fisher Memorial Hike. We invite you to walk with us, carry her legacy on by connecting with our neighbors, learning about the history of Inwood and Washington Heights, and creating peace with each step.

🗓️Tomorrow, Saturday, June 6th

⏰9:15am

📍Flagpole inside Seaman / Isham entrance

The Memorial Hike is moderate and approximately 3.5 miles in length from the flagpole at Seaman / Isham entrance to Sunken Playground in Highbridge Park. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and layers. Rain jacket just in case — event is rain or shine! The hike is stroller-friendly. (Chris will be leading the hike hike and his kid will be riding his bike! 🚲)

Happy May Day and happy spring! 🌱
We are so excited for warmer weather, longer days, and more opportunities to be outdoors with our friends and community. We are thrilled to again host long-time events like Riverkeeper Sweep at the boathouse and celebrate new milestones like the centennial of Inwood Hill Park’s founding with and the Urban Park Rangers. We hope to see you at all our events throughout May and beyond. As always, we can’t wait to see you in the park!

Rain can’t keep a good thing down!
We are so excited to partner with for another Riverkeeper Sweep as part of ’s mission to keep the Hudson River and its banks clean, beautiful, and healthy for generations to come. Sunset Poetry Hike 🌅
Tomorrow, Friday, April 24th, 2026
6:30pm - 8:00pm
Isham Street entrance of Inwood Hill Park

Pack water, snacks, and a poem, song, or rap for the Sunset Poetry Hike. An open mic hike for all ages and abilities
This is the first event of the Earth Day Festival organized by the Friends of Inwood Hill Park! The hike will start at the Isham street entrance, wander around the shoreline of the cove, then head up the Blue Trail to Overlook Meadow for sunset before we finally hike out together at dusk. We’ll break along the way for poetry about natural spaces and our relationships to land. We’ll also offer time for anyone who wants share work: their own creation or something that inspires them.

Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring a flashlight or headlamp for the hike out. All ages and ability levels welcome for both the hike and readings.

The guided hike will be led and hosted by local poet Donnie Welch, a Parks Super Steward and Pathkeeper with the Natural Areas Conservancy.

No April Fooling — spring is here and so is the Earth Day Festival! 🌎🌱🎉

After a snowy start, we had a wonderful first month of stewardship in 2026. Our volunteers picked up trash along the Hudson River, cared for street trees on Payson Avenue, and wrestled with invasive plants behind the tennis courts. Thank you to everyone who has attended our events, both newcomers and seasoned stewards; we appreciate you so much 🫶

This month, in addition to all the fun of Earth Day Festival, you can keep our forests and rivers clean, learn about the importance of ecosystem health, and show your community some love. We can’t wait to see you in the park!
