You get a milkweed! You get a milkweed! Oh, you didn’t sign up for one? That’s alright, even YOU get a milkweed!

The Education Team hasn’t been able to track down our sign-up list from Party for the Planet. Oops! BUT we won't let that get in the way of helping pollinators survive and thrive in Manhattan. In honor of Butterfly Education and Awareness Day, the Zoo is giving away one milkweed plant per household, while supplies last.

Stop by Sunset Zoo’s Gift Shop and pick up your pint-sized pollinator powerhouse from June 7th through 14th. Happy planting!

🐝 Help Kansas Bumble Bees and have fun doing it!

Did you know Kansas is home to native bumble bees that need our help? The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, in partnership with the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, is looking for community volunteers to join the Great Plains Bumble Bee Atlas this summer.

This is a free, beginner-friendly opportunity for adults and kids alike to get outside, learn about pollinators, and contribute real data that researchers and policymakers use to protect these important species. No experience necessary and training is provided!

Reno County - K-State Extension is getting ready to hold their Central Kansas Master Naturalist training, starting on Feb. 17. Classes will be held on Tuesday afternoons through April 21. The Kansas Master Naturalist Program aims to develop knowledgeable and dedicated citizens who are active in promoting awareness, understanding, and stewardship of the natural heritage of Kansas.
