Join Anjali for a day in the life as an AgTech Intern! 👩🏽‍💻

As an alum of Intro to AgTech Cohort 8, Anjali got to bridge her Architecture studies at NYIT with her sustainable agriculture learnings from our program and pour them into her internship experience! 👌🏽

While she teamed up with Agona to get the farm systems they built at NYIT during the program off the struggle bus and pipeline the harvests to the Bear Bites Food pantry on campus, they also worked together to bring new farm systems to the school using the farm design and 2d/3d modeling skills they gained during Intro to AgTech! 🥳

That design project is now becoming a new project build she can add to her portfolio of work and will expand on food production for the Bear Bites program. 🤞🏽

It’s great to see how students with all levels of experience and backgrounds can implement the learnings into new frontiers and we’re so excited to keep sharing updates on their progress! 🤓

Our newest client website is officially live! 🥳

NYC Mushroom Network’s new website is not just the first client-facing website our Intro to AgTech Cohort 8 alums have built, this project also served as a major milestone for a newly blooming organization whose myceliating NYC, one log at a time! 🍄

Sebastian, Karan & John absolutely delivered on this project and after a brief post-launch period to ensure the website was working out well for them, here’s what our client had to say about the development process:

“The team worked hard to build a website that professionally showcased our work, integrated an interactive map of our partners in NYC, displayed our events through an automated tooling of the Eventbrite API, and gave us a way to receive interest for our programming. Working with them was a phenomenal opportunity, the project was led with professionalism and attention to our needs, and we would be excited to partner again in the future.”

If you’re a small farm, food relief or food justice organization and in need of a website, reach out to us to join our next cycle of internship matches and we’ll build you the best website for your brand! 🙏🏽

Agona’s Day in the Life as an AgTech Intern working on food security solutions! 🙌🏽

As an Architecture student at NYIT, Agona has been looking for ways to integrate sustainable infrastructure into her design projects and is finding her niche, using hydroponic farm systems! She was part of Cohort 8 of Intro to AgTech last year, where she helped set up the Gardyn towers that we donated to the school, and since then has been taking on plant care, including troubleshooting technical needs, seeding, and coordinating with the Bear Bites program that NYIT hosts for their students! 🌱

Not only that, but her Cohort 8 peer has been tag-teaming a new farm design project with her that was recently pitched to an Architecture firm and is now being sponsored to support sustainable ag production for the recipients of the Bear Bites initiative! 🐻

We can’t wait to see all the good food they’re gonna bring to life! 🫡

We had our first site visit with an elected official earlier this month and it was with ! 💪🏽

Not only did we get to showcase our Good Food for All free food vending machine, but we got to give an in depth breakdown of our programs, including Intro to AgTech, our Internship and even, give our debut demo of a new project we’re aiming to launch this year! 🤓

We also got to know Council member Farias’s background in workforce development. Which led to us having a great conversation around how we subsidize employment, create jobs and prepare jobseekers in the Bronx and beyond for careers in urban agriculture, technology and construction. Furthermore, we got to learn about the efforts she’s making to expand urban agriculture in District 18, with the goal of ending the starvation cycle and have a sustainable way to address food insecurity. 👏🏼

So glad we got to have this discussion with , thank you stopping by! ☺️

And big shout out to our partner for always being a lovely host. 💕

Tech Talks: Part One is officially kicking off with our Intro to AgTech Cohort 8 Alum, Karandeep Singh! 👨🏽‍💻

Here he’s showing us how to easily and affordably (aka virtually for the free free 🤑) auto populate events on a website for an up and coming agriculture based CBO, as part of his internship! 👌🏽

When it comes to event sections on websites, hard coding or manually updating your website everytime you have a new event coming up can be a huge headache - especially for our client who frequently hosts workshops for mushroom cultivation throughout NYC! 🍄‍🟫🍄🪵

So, we tasked Karan with integrating the org’s Eventbrite account using the Eventbrite API to autopopulate new events and list past events for their website build our interns are currently building. This is just one simple way to add value to your clients while you’re building your coding skills - and Karan is dropping the gems to make sure you do it right! 💎

Be sure to pause and zoom in to view the code snippets! And if you end up adding this project to your portfolio, tag us in your post about it and we’ll share it out - we wanna showcase your API skills, too! 👾
