Maya Angelou is credited with the following quote, “Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his needs, is good for him."
Mrs. Platte’s ELA classes participated in the first of their quarterly Book Tastings in preparation for their upcoming book projects. As the students got lost in the pages of their books, they were able to enjoy their favorite snacks, chill by their friends, and most importantly develop a love for reading (fingers crossed). 📚
Fun facts about the benefits of reading:
Brain imaging shows that reading a novel creates connectivity changes that persist for days after finishing, strengthening pathways tied to empathy and emotional processing.
Reading fiction activates the sensory cortex - the brain processes smells, sounds, and textures described on the page as if they were real.
Reading doesn't just inform you. It rewires you. Every page you follow trains your brain to stay. To focus. To resist distraction.
