This is story telling at its finest and wouldn’t be possible without all of the brave neighboring property owners coming forward to take a stand.

It’s always been our position that this is about protecting our rural communities and farmland.

Thank you Jenny McKee and Frankie Shoemake for bringing attention to this issue. It’s been buried and ignored for far too long.

Regarding the Data Center Resolutions.

We have had several comments and individuals reach out that are still skeptical about the language in the proposed resolutions. To be clear, we have not read the exact language yet, so it is difficult to offer critiques until we have that language to read ourselves.

We also had some pushback because we said we supported the mayor and planning commission. This is true, we are proud of the work our county is doing in an attempt to spearhead and get ahead of the data center boom.

It’s not perfect. It’s not flawless. It’s not without critique. But we are so thankful to see them all eager to make changes and attempt to put in restrictions that will assist in aligning with our main mission here which is RESPONSIBLE GROWTH.

Most of the comments are from people who want complete bans, and we understand that thinking, and are open to any and all solutions that make the most sense for our county.

Our other mission is putting the power back in the communities hands, if you are concerned that these restrictions are “too much” or do not think these restrictions are “strict enough” as we have heard, then we would like to ENCOURAGE YOU to watch the planning commission meeting in full, research what all of it means, get your hands on the exact language being proposed, and then come prepared to thoughtfully discuss at the full commission meeting on October 13th.

The goal of this is not for us to tell you what to think, it’s to empower you to get engaged in your local goverment and use your voice to shape the rules and regulations that are put in place.

We are proud of the leaders we have elected but it’s because they have been so willing to listen to the feedback of informed and engaged constitutes.

This is good news everyone.

We don’t want a data center here either, but our planning commission is doing a GREAT JOB putting in protections in place.

Please don’t fall for the “we must ban them” conversation. That’s a terrible way to handle a legal activity. The best option is to give it a place to live, and make it uncomfortable enough for the company that is interested that they would prefer to go elsewhere, and if they DO want to come here; then there are enough restrictions in place so that the citizens are as protected as possible.

We don’t know if we agree with every detail in the resolution, but it’s a good starting point, and we are proud of the work that our planning commission is doing.

Once we get a copy of the full resolution as it is written and will be proposed to the full commission, we will share this with you all.

Amendments can still be made in the future.

Your county commissioners can take your feedback and make adjustments and recommendations during the October 17th meeting as well.

Show up to the meeting on October 13th there will be a public hearing at 5:30 to hear your concerns!

Let’s be an engaged and knowledgeable community and raise our concerns well, but most importantly, be grateful that we have a planning commission willing to hear these concerns and take action.

Coffee County enacted a data center moratorium in June, in order to give the planning commission time to create regulations for the facilities before they can be built. Now, it's time to vote on the changes. Read more at our link in bio

It’s happening in state after state and it’s coming in fast- REZONING!
Here’s what people are telling us:
1. “Developers attorney helped write the data center ordinances”
2. “Signed NDA and they rezoned this cornfield into heavy industrial”
3. “City council annexed substantial parcel of land from agricultural to industrial”
4. “Zero impact assessments which are required - it’s an agricultural zone and they rezoned it for commercial, not industrial”
5. “City let a company rezone and amend PUD for data center buildings”

We have hundreds of these. Same playbook.
Agricultural is now Industrial. No studies. No transparency. The residents are the last to know.
This is wrong. Our zoning, our land, and our process deserve better.
