🚨 PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE – BEDFORD COUNTY 🚨

Another major permit application tied to the Highway 64 Lakes development is moving forward.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed issuance of NPDES (stormwater discharge) permits, including one for Hawkins & Price, LLC related to the Highway 64 Lakes project.

🕕 6:00 p.m. – Public Hearing
📍 Location: Bedford County Business Complex

This hearing is your opportunity to submit comments regarding the proposed water quality permit. Keep in mind that TDEC has stated comments should focus on water quality and the permit application itself. Issues such as zoning, traffic, and other local land-use concerns are generally outside the scope of this hearing.

That doesn’t mean your voice doesn’t matter.

For nearly two years, Bedford County residents have raised concerns about this project—from zoning compliance to environmental impacts and permitting. We’ve already seen TDEC take enforcement action against Hawkins & Price for operating without required air permits. Now another piece of the regulatory process is before the public.

If you have concerns about how stormwater runoff, sediment, or discharges could impact local waterways, this is the time to make them part of the official record.

We encourage residents to attend, ask questions, and participate respectfully. Whether you support or oppose the project, public involvement is an important part of the process, and decisions are stronger when the community is engaged.

We’ll continue following this issue and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

The time has passed.

We have begged. We have pleaded. We have shown up at meetings, made the phone calls, sent the emails, filed the records requests and asked the same questions over and over again.

We have tried to do this the right way.

We have talked until there are no more words left to say.

Now it’s time for action.

This was never about one neighbor being unhappy. It was never about one house, one view or one property line.

This is about what we are watching happen in our rural agricultural communities across the nation.

It’s about massive excavation, rock crushing, stockpiling and hauling being carried out while citizens are told what they’re looking at is a “farm pond.”

It’s about A-1 zoning and whether it actually means anything.

It’s about the blasting, dust, noise, heavy truck traffic and the impact on people who were living here long before any of this started.

It’s about the questions we’ve asked our public officials and the months we’ve spent waiting for someone to actually do something.

Rumor has it that Hawkins & Price, LLC is working on a deal buying out one of their most outspoken neighbors and are allegedly even making them sign an NDA.

If that’s true, we certainly wish that neighbor well. Living immediately next to an active quarry is an absolute nightmare.

But if anyone believes buying one affected property out is going to quiet this down, they have completely misunderstood anything about the goals of those who have come together to work on rural issues and overgrowth in agricultural areas.

Buying one property will absolutely not make this go away. Buying two properties. Three. What about those who don’t want to leave? Who can’t leave? What about those neighbors who are already sick from the dust in their lungs? We won’t leave them behind. We won’t stop fighting for them. For all of us.

Here’s what we would say to everyone. Don’t be fooled by the empty promises from individuals acting on behalf of a corporation who have refused to be a good neighbor thus far.

It doesn’t erase what has already happened.

It doesn’t answer the questions about zoning or enforcement.

It doesn’t make the trucks disappear from our roads.

It doesn’t undo the precedent being set for every other agricultural community in Bedford County and surrounding counties.

And it certainly doesn’t make the rest of us stop asking questions.

You can buy a property. You cannot buy an entire community’s silence.

We’ve spent months being silent in this space- watching and learning the laws, gathering records, documenting what is happening and trying to get the people responsible for enforcement to act.

Along the way, this became much bigger than any one property.

And now; we are more united in this mission than ever before.

So, respectfully, the days of hoping everyone will eventually get tired and go home are over.

We aren’t tired.
And we ARE HOME.
And we aren’t going to quit talking about it.

One property may change hands.

The rest of us are still here.

These “Farm Ponds” aka commercially operating quarry’s not appropriately zoned are doing so much damage to our communities. This is just across the county line in Bedford.

The City of Manchester has acted like a bully and has overplayed their hand.

Attention District 5 and District 12 and neighboring District Commissioners as well as members of the Williamson County TN Regional Planning Commission and our new County Mayor Andy Marshall for Williamson County Mayor.

At this point in time all flooding occurring in the unincorporated county (and beyond) should be previewed and considered in all decisions and planning departments with input from residents and the organization dedicated to protecting the Harpeth and its tributaries/waterways -the Harpeth Conservancy Harpeth Conservancy and Dorie Bolze.

Local elections shape the future of Coffee County. The people we elect will make decisions about growth, infrastructure, budgeting, and the direction of our communities for years to come.

They have not started moving gravel here in coffee county… YET, but this is what it will be like.

This is a massive issue that the State will need to address sooner rather than later, but for now, we need all the help we can at the county level.
