Great guy! I grew up with his grandson Joe and have known the whole family since I was a kid. Well deserved feature
Meet Don Leafe, a remarkable 92-year-old volunteer whose dedication to serving others has left an indelible mark at Elliot Hospital. Don retired as Manager of the Machine Center at Lockheed Sanders. Two days later, he began work with Elliot Hospital Associates, managing the Candy Stripers and overseeing operations at the 1890 Café.
Don's commitment to Elliot Hospital spans over two decades, during which he spent 16 years in the emergency department (ED), providing invaluable assistance with paperwork. In 1998, he and Priscilla Giordano were honored as Elliot Hospital’s Volunteers of the Year.
Apart from his ED contributions, Don managed the doctor's breakroom and took on the significant responsibility of working in the Medical Depot Supply (MDS). His role involves helping the shipping and receiving team with early morning freight deliveries and delivering vital supplies throughout the hospital.
Despite his numerous contributions, Don remains humble, insisting that the everyday workers make Elliot Hospital function smoothly. He deflects the spotlight, emphasizing the collective effort of the hospital staff. In his own words, "Why are you featuring me? It's the workers here every day that make this place work and are really important." Don's commitment to service and modest demeanor make him a truly special volunteer, embodying the spirit of selflessness that enriches the Elliot Hospital community. Thank you Don!
