For Jan Schlecht, a ride to the grocery store can become much more than a trip across town.
Jan, who has no vision, often relies on volunteer drivers through Future In Sight to get to appointments, run errands, and keep daily life moving. One of those drivers is Kathy Nichols, and over time, the rides have turned into something bigger: a friendship.
From Market Basket runs to doctor’s appointments, coffee stops, concerts, and even dog-sitting for each other, Jan and Kathy show how a simple act of service can create a real connection. In New Hampshire, volunteers completed 3,750 rides in 2025—but for the people in the passenger seat, the impact goes far beyond the miles.
