Do you love being a role model and coaching? Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia needs you!

The impact of a Girls on the Run volunteer coach is as boundless as it is beautiful. Coaches work to support the Girls on the Run vision of a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. So lace up your sneakers and inspire a group of participants to be strong, confident, and healthy! Girls on the Run is a youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade that creatively integrates running and physical movement. Teams of volunteer coaches are trained to facilitate our easy-to-follow curriculum with small groups of participants twice a week over the course of an eight week season. You don't need to be a runner or a competitive athlete to coach! Successful coaches only need to serve as role models for girls by showing up prepared and on time, by listening attentively, and by demonstrating a positive attitude! GOTR NOVA encourages applications from minorities, people with disabilities, individuals who are bilingual and all other qualified applicants.

Coaches are required to commit to 2-3 hours per week for the season, with a few additional hours required for Coach Training and the GOTR NOVA season ending 5K celebration. Practice schedules will vary based on team. GOTR’s Fall 2026 Season starts the week of September 21, 2026 and ends on November 23, 2026.

They have program sites at over 100 schools and community centers across the Northern Virginia region - so they are sure to find a location that works for you to volunteer! Want to learn more or sign up? Check the comments for the link!

Happy June!!! We are starting the month off with a brand new volunteer opportunity. Workhouse Arts Center needs volunteers on Saturday, June 27th for their Annual Fireworks event!

Your support will be crucial for tasks like guiding attendees, assisting with parking, administering mini golf, staffing info booths, wayfinding, setting up, tearing down, and supporting vendor booths.

Volunteers will be outside for the majority of the event with lots of standing and walking. Volunteers are required to be 16 years of age or must volunteer with a parent/guardian if 14/15.

They will provide food and refreshments during the event - and everyone who stays till the end will get to watch the fireworks!

There are several shift options available at this family friendly event located in Lorton. If this sounds like something you would like to do, check out the link to the volunteer opportunity in the comment to read more or sign up!

Supervisor Victor Angry was our guest speaker, which was very uplifting to hear about his history with volunteerism.

Are you passionate about supporting our local Veterans? Consider joining our Veterans Enhanced Transportation Service (VETS) Program and help give back to the Veterans in our community who need it most.

Established in 2014, the VETS Program provided over 900 rides to nearly 100 clients in FY24 and OVER 1700 rides in FY25!!! VPW is proud to have a dedicated group of volunteers who provide transportation to Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park Veterans, as well as their spouses or surviving spouses.

Our volunteers help Veterans get to:
Medical appointments
Grocery stores
Senior centers
And more

Veterans are picked up by a friendly volunteer, taken to their destination, and safely driven home when finished. In 2025, drivers provided more than 1,700 rides covering over 20,000 miles.

This service is deeply appreciated by our Veterans and plays a vital role in reducing feelings of isolation and depression—especially for those who can no longer drive.

Interested in becoming a VETS driver? Once signed up, you choose how often you drive by scheduling as many rides as you’d like, all based on your availability.

Get ready for 2 upcoming community events hosted by Prince William Conservation Alliance!

TOMORROW from 7-9pm - Join the Prince William Conservation Alliance (PWCA) for a virtual community conversation examining how developments like the proposed Buckland (Not) Preserve project, if approved, would undermine long-term strategies for sustainable drinking water Prince William County. Together, we’ll explore the connection between land use and healthy streams, using Little Bull Run as a local case study and discuss how the concerning changes at Little Bull Run could inform development moving forward for the stream health, groundwater, stormwater management, transportation infrastructure, and the long-term resilience of the Occoquan drinking water supply.

May 28th from 7-9pm - Join the Prince William Conservation Alliance (PWCA) for a virtual conversation exploring how smart growth, walkable communities, and better regional planning can help protect rural landscapes and reduce pressure for sprawl development. This program is part of PWCA’s ongoing series highlighting our 3Rs: Reaching Our Potential vision for a more sustainable future in Prince William County. The program will connect these broader regional ideas to local challenges facing Prince William County today, while offering residents new tools and perspectives for understanding and responding to sprawl development proposals.

Passionate about helping abused and neglected children? You can do so in our community by becoming a volunteer advocate with CASA CIS!

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) make a difference in abused and neglected children’s lives. They are seeking volunteers who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent, and loving home.

The first step in becoming a CASA volunteer is to attend an information session. At the sessions, guests will hear from a CASA supervisor about the process of advocating for a child who has been abused or neglected. You will also learn about the application process and training requirements. It’s the best way to get the full picture of what’s involved.

The next session will be held Virtually on Wednesday, May 20 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Check the link in the comments for more information or to get the meeting link or inquire about alternate dates if you can't make it this week!
