Vision Malvern is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation which was formed in 2024 to serve as the fund advisor for the field of interest fund established by the Charles E. Lakin Foundation and held with the Community Foundation for Western Iowa (CFWI).

At Vision Malvern, our mission is to enhance the quality of life in our town and surrounding areas by fostering sustainable development through innovative housing projects and community-focused initiatives. We are dedicated to strengthening our community, supporting local schools, and creating a vibrant, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. By working collaboratively with residents, local organizations, and stakeholders, we strive to build a brighter, more sustainable future for Malvern.

If you are not familiar with the gift the Lakin Foundation committed to 51 communities within Southwest Iowa, you can read more here:

The fund benefiting Malvern is approximately $4,000,000. Of this amount, $500,000 is earmarked to benefit Hastings. Fund amounts were set based on population. Funds are not held locally, but can be requested by Vision Malvern in the form of loans for projects such as housing with approval and oversight from the Lakin Foundation and CFWI. Additionally, grant funding is available annually that aligns with three core focus areas: Children and Families, Education and Training, and Economic Resilience.

Vision Malvern is governed by a 13 member board. The initial directors include Jay Burdic, Owen Dashner, Tim Jackson, Natalie Lancial, Kate McGann, Don Reed, Garret Stephens, Elvera Thomas, Matt Urban, Joe Wearin, Brian West, Monte West and Larry Williams.

As Vision Malvern continues to evolve, we will post additional information on this page. Questions can be e-mailed to [email protected].
