CURE GABA-A 🚨 WE NEED EVERY CURE GABA-A FAMILY TO FUNDRAISE NOW.

We are at a critical point in this project.

If we cannot make the next payment, the program goes on pause.

We have already asked for a 30-day extension to make this payment. That extension delays the project by 30 days and ends at the end of August.

We cannot afford another delay.

Three years ago, there was no treatment. No drug. No clear path forward.

Today, we have a drug.

We are developing the first-ever mRNA protein replacement therapy for GABAAR disorders.

What does that mean?

When a GABA receptor gene isn’t working properly, the brain may not make enough of an important protein. This therapy is designed to give the body temporary instructions to make the protein it needs—helping replace what the gene is not producing properly.

The drug exists. Now we have to do the work required to get it to our children.

Our next payment funds the mouse studies needed to move toward the FDA. We are submitting our pre-IND package, and these mouse studies will provide important data needed for the IND submission—the application required before the FDA can allow a new therapy to enter human clinical trials.

After this milestone, we begin raising the remaining $250,000 needed to keep advancing the program.

But right now, we need to make this payment.

Our 30-day extension ends at the end of August.

We need EVERYONE.

Fundraise. Share. Ask your family. Ask your friends. Ask your workplace. Ask your community. Start a fundraiser—even if you have never fundraised before.

Your child’s data is helping move science forward. 💙

Researchers have created a new tool that can help predict whether a child’s GABAAR variant causes Gain-of-Function or Loss-of-Function—an important step toward understanding each child’s disorder and eventually choosing treatments based on their specific mechanism.

We want to give a huge congratulations and our deepest appreciation to Christian Bosselmann, MD, Rikke Steensbjerre Møller, Rebekka Dahl, and the entire team of authors and collaborators behind this work.

Research like this takes an incredible amount of time, expertise, collaboration, and dedication.

We are so grateful that these researchers continue to focus their work on understanding GABAAR disorders and giving our families, and the doctors caring for our children, better information.

We are also incredibly proud that CURE GABA-A was acknowledged in this publication.

That acknowledgment belongs to our community: the patients, parents, and caregivers who share their experiences and data on MATRIX.

This is why we keep asking families to complete their surveys in the CURE GABA-A portal in MATRIX.

When you share your child’s data, researchers can learn from it. That knowledge helps build publications like this one, and those publications become resources that your neurologist or geneticist can reference to better understand and care for your child locally.

We made the deadline.

Thanks to this incredible community, CURE GABA-A has officially paid the $28,000 Gain-of-Function mRNA therapy milestone payment.

That means this work does not have to stop. It keeps moving forward.

This milestone belongs to every parent who donated, every family who shared our posts, and every person who helped us get here. You made this payment possible.

But we still have one more milestone in front of us.

For the remaining Loss-of-Function milestone payment, we have requested a 30-day extension to give our community additional time to raise the funds still needed.

We are incredibly grateful for how far everyone has carried these programs. These treatments are moving forward because families and supporters decided our children deserve more than waiting for someone else to develop a therapy.

Today, we celebrate this payment. Tomorrow, we keep going.

Brian will swim, bike and run 140.6 miles for his daughter, Raina, his wife Julia, and all the gain of function kids out there counting on this CURE GABA-A treatment.

And as parents, waiting is the hardest part.

The science is moving. The treatment is being tested by Grann Pharmaceuticals & Neucyte. We are closer than we have ever been. But without funding, the research cannot keep moving.

So tomorrow, Brian is giving everything he has for 140.6 miles in the hope that we will rally behind him.

Because of this incredible community, every matching dollar was claimed, bringing us one step closer to treatments for children with GABAAR disorders.

But our work isn’t finished.

We still need $52,753.86.

Tomorrow, we have research payments due. These payments keep our mRNA protein replacement therapy programs moving forward. Without funding, progress slows. With funding, we continue building toward treatments that address the underlying cause of these disorders.

No one else is funding this work for our children.

We are.

CURE GABA-A | Outreach

Our Scientific Advisory Board, made up of world-renowned experts including Rikke Møller, Sarah Poliquin, Dennis Lal, and many others, recently met to discuss the future of GABAAR research.

One of their requests to our community was for us keep our patient data up to date and complete any outstanding MATRIX surveys.

Accurate, comprehensive community data is one of the most valuable resources we can provide to researchers. It helps identify research priorities, better understand the natural history of GABAAR disorders, improve clinical trial readiness, and accelerate the development of new treatments.

Over the coming weeks, CURE GABA-A volunteers will be reaching out to families to help update records and answer any questions.
