Service Spotlight 💙❤️

William (senior): “I helped organize and hand out food to people who are less fortunate than others and need their strength through food. This organization metter since it has helped hungry people not starve by giving them the food that they need. That way the less fortunate people can have now rely on when there next meal will be because of this wonderful program through Feed my Sheep.”

Lexi (senior): “I have been working with the Maui Humane Society to help make sure all the animals, specifically the dogs, get to go outside and socialize with people. This matters to me because I have loved animals since I was a kid. My childhood dog was a Maui rescue from the humane society, and I would just love to see all the animals enjoy their lives and go to loving families.”

Amelia (junior): “I volunteer for Cat Cafe Maui as my service project. I volunteer in the mornings before the cat cafe opens, and I clean the space as well as feed the cats breakfast. This matters to me because I love seeing the cats get socialized over time and eventually adopted.”

Service Spotlight

Asher: “What’s up! My name is Asher Kingdon, and I’m in 11th grade. This is my first year as an NHS member, and I’m so-very-super-pumped to share my service project with you! For the last couple of months, I have been collecting trash on the roadside near the Main St. underpass in Wailuku. Over my several trips and countless garbage bags I have picked up a myriad of different items: spam containers, bedsheets, lawn chairs, traffic cones, and more. This project is especially important to me as it involves servicing an area that I have seen rarely cleaned over my entire childhood. Additionally, it’s important to keep in mind that this spot is only ~2 miles away from the shoreline, making my project especially important in order to lessen ocean pollution.”

Ren (senior): “I have been working with both Maui OnStage and Seabury Hall to help out with plays, musicals, and concerts. I started working in the tech booth as a lighting tech my Freshman year and have designed and run lights for seven shows this school year.”

Service Spotlight!!

Ez (junior): “I have been working with Hawaiian Land Trust through last semester! I help out with the educational aspect of the organization, and participate in beach cleanups and native planting at Waihe’e Refuge! This service is meaningful to me because I am able to give back to a place that was an important part of my childhood, and such an ecologically and culturally rich place on the island overall!”

Charlotte (junior): “I have been volunteering at the Assistance Dogs of Hawai’i, which is an organization that raises, trains, and places service dogs with people with disabilities free of charge. I help walk, brush and feed the dogs, as well as cleaning up around the campus. This service is meaningful to me as I have seen how much of a positive impact a service dog can have.”

Service Spotlight! ❤️💙

Molly and Riley (seniors): “Our project concerns the Cat Ohana at the Maui Humane Society. We’ve both had pets growing up and of course, love animals. Being able to help do both big and small tasks at the Maui Humane Society has been very rewarding, but also so easy to do when we already care about these animals. We help out with whatever the staff asks of us. This typically ranges from distributing food to kittens and cats to washing litter boxes and disinfecting them.”

Service Spotlight 🦃🍁

Kiandra (junior): “I have been volunteering at ReVive Boutique, a store run by Women Helping Women, where I sort donations, organize items, and help customers. This directly supports Women Helping Women by raising funds to support survivors of domestic violence and providing free clothing and essential resources to people staying in the emergency shelter.”

Wills (junior): “I have been swabbing people to add them to the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Registry, which connects blood cancer patients with strangers who can donate their bone marrow to them, potentially saving their life. I chose to do this service as I donated my bone marrow to my brother with cancer, so I find fulfillment in helping others do the same, hoping to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.”

Service Spotlight ❤️💙

Wesley: “In my service, I helped coach a 3rd-4th grade robotics team in the VEX IQ robotics program. This included teaching them about programming, gear ratios, and structure. I also helped them participate in competitions, where they worked with other teams to score as many points in the challenge as possible.”

Kalei: “As someone interested in the medical field, I wanted to do a volunteer service at my local hospital. It gave me an experience of what life is like in this environment and also allows me to help this community while exploring my career interests. Volunteering at the hospital has given me much joy and am excited to continue my service.”
