This is the time of year that the mulberries are ripe. We have two mulberries the area, red and white mulberry. Red mulberry is the native mulberry and white mulberry is the non-native. This time of year you can tell the difference by looking at the length of their fruits. The red has the longer of the two. The red also has bigger and less glossy looking leaves than the white. Both are delicious and are safe for humans to eat when ripe.

A big thank you to the volunteers who came out today help plant trees today! We planted 50 saplings at the Pendery Nature Trail. Thank you to the Campell County UK Extension Office for providing funding for the trees.

Its that time of year! Eastern box turtles are emerging from their winter brumation. Brumation is a state of dormancy, like hibernation, that reptiles use. Keep on eye out for these cute little guys on your next hike.
