Friends of Stinson Library

Friends of Stinson Library Friends of Stinson Library was formed for the purpose of building community support for the library. Friends of Stinson is a not-for-profit corporation.

History of Friends:

The original Friends of Stinson Library District was formed in October 2001 for the purpose of building community support for the library and its programs and services. “Friends” as it has become known to many, was founded as an association of individuals, civic organizations, and local businesses who worked in support of the library district by assisting in specific projects

by conducting used book sales. The role of the group has grown somewhat since its conception and now in addition to assisting in specific projects, “Friends” recommends and funds new programs, projects, and services for the library. Governance is provided by an eleven-member board of directors, all of whom are volunteers elected by the members of the corporation at the annual meeting held on the first Monday of July each year. This is held at Stinson Library at 10:00 am and is open to everyone who shares a desire to see the local library district succeed in it’s role in the continued growth and development of our community.

As we get ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026, organizations across Union County are teaming up to create a year filled with history, celebration, and community pride.

One of our most meaningful projects will be an Oral History Filming Initiative, capturing the voices and stories of Union County residents—past, present, and future. These interviews will preserve our local memories, traditions, and milestones, and a selection of them will be sealed in the Union County America 250 Time Capsule to be opened by future generations.

From festivals and races to exhibits, garden projects, and community conversations, America’s 250 in Union County will be a celebration for all ages. Stay tuned—more details and event announcements are coming soon! Follow the Union County America 250 page for all of the latest details. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61584680546326

Let’s celebrate where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going—together. ❤️🤍💙

James Contes works for IDOT and shared a picture of the library during the snowstorm last week. He noted how the orange emergency lights gave the perfect glow to the falling snow.

Don't go through another winter storm without a good read!
And if you have any books, especially paperbacks, that you would like to get rid of to make room for your purchases, we would appreciate your donations!
