It's that time of year where our precious lakes will have walleyes spawning to create babies that will be the next generation of fish! 🎣🍼. Franklin Lake, just outside Eagle River, needs YOUR help to allow walleyes to naturally reproduce in the future. Research and data from this project will benefit and help walleye lakes across the Northwoods so please consider reading about and supporting our WDNR project!

Great article from Wired2Fish about the struggles walleyes face on Wisconsin lakes that mentions our walleye spawning habitat restoration efforts as a remedy to rebuilding declining walleye populations across the Northwoods. Click below to read:

This WDNR approved and built, but privately funded $200,000 project, will restore natural spawning habitat to the lake to increase natural reproduction of walleyes on the lake which is on the verge of extinction. The lake is also home to 1 of 7 rare inland whitefish populations in the entire state that is also on the verge of extinction. Biologists believe the reef will also be used by whitefish for reproduction and save that population as well.

This fundraiser will support vital conservation efforts, including a walleye spawning reef that will rebuild and protect Franklin Lake’s walleye and whitefish populations forever. By coming together as a community, we can give back to the lake that has given so much to us all and make a positive difference.

YOU can make a difference TODAY — every gift, every time you tell a friend/family member about our project, every foundation or business you share our cause with for grant or sponsorship support — ALL helps ensure Franklin Lake’s fish, wildlife, and natural beauty will be protected for future generations.

We would like to sincerely thank the Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Foundation for supporting Franklin Lake Improvement Association and our conservation work with a cornerstone sponsorship! Their generous contribution will support the construction of a walleye spawning reef with our partners at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources next winter. This transformative project to help a nearly extinct walleye population recover would not be possible without generous support from organizations like the WPS Foundation. This donation brings us one step closer to our fundraising goal of $75,000!

The WPS Foundation is the charitable giving entity of Wisconsin Public Service, which has delivered safe, reliable energy to northeast and north-central Wisconsin for more than 140 years. The WPS Foundation works to build brighter futures by supporting non-profit organizations in the communities it serves. The foundation supports initiatives for enhanced educational opportunities, community and neighborhood development, health and human services, arts and culture, and the environment. Since its inception, the WPS Foundation has provided more than $45 million in support to charitable organizations and initiatives.

Individuals, businesses, or organizations interested in partnering with the Franklin Lake Improvement Association on the walleye spawning reef can contact us at: [email protected].

Donations are tax-deductible, and go toward supporting conservation efforts at Franklin Lake and in the Northwoods. To become a sponsor or to make a one-time donation, click on the link below or visit our GoFundMe page.
