Photo Campaign: "I am Hmong American"

Photo Campaign: "I am Hmong American" UW-Madison Hmong American Student Association (HASA) Photo Campaign is a campaign to express Hmong American identity, struggles and inspirational messages.

PURPOSE:
HASA is starting our first Photo Booth Campaign. In a predominantly White institution, rarely do people collectively organize with other Hmong American students in our classes because there are few compared to the total population of the student body. The Hmong American community has made great strides at UW-Madison. Hmong people are the largest Asian American community in Wisconsin and

at UW-Madison. Also, Hmong is the most commonly spoken language after Spanish in Wisconsin alone. In addition, we have been committed to a Hmong American Studies track at UW-Madison. Additionally, this year will mark the 40th year of the arrival of Hmong Americans here in America! This is definitely something to celebrate. With the momentum of movements occurring, this photo booth campaign hopes to unite all Hmong American students and staff, regardless of our clan, socioeconomic status, origin of birth, hometown/cities, academic standing, and etc. OUR stories must be heard. We are more than refugee numbers listed on a plaque. We are more than a statistic to show diversity on campus. We are not the “Model Minority.”
And we are not inferior. We are leaders. Mentors. We are ________
