Amid parades, shared meals, and family gatherings, thousands of officers are still out there, watching over neighborhoods, helping strangers, and keeping our communities safe.
Today and every day, we honor the men and women in blue and the families who miss them at the table for the sacrifices they make so we can celebrate safely. We are grateful for those who serve and for those who wait for them to come home.

On Sunday, December 29th, 2024, Madison Police Officer Sean Nielsen responded to a medical call involving a female who was having difficulty breathing and was in and out of consciousness. Upon his arrival, the female was found to be unresponsive and not breathing.

After assessing the patient, he applied AED pads and began CPR. Lake County Deputy Steve Rowe and off duty Officer Jason Coenen were in the area and also responded to assist Officer Nielsen. They continued CPR until ambulance personnel arrived on scene and utilized the LUCAS device. They assisted with getting the patient to Madison Regional Hospital. The patient survived due to their actions.

This was a great example of teamwork between all three entities involved. Today, both Officers were presented “CPR Save” pins as a recognition of their actions. Keep up the great work!

Bond of Brotherhood Created Thanks to the Rykhus Family

Members of the City of Madison, SD Fire Department and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 were treated to a fabulous pheasant hunt and afternoon meal thanks to Daniel and Sharon Rykhus! Walking a field for pheasants alongside fellow first responders was phenomenal. Strengthening camaraderie is an idea the Rykhus family holds a passion for. Thank you again Daniel and Sharon, your hospitality is incredible and will be remembered forever.

The Rykhus family graciously contributed a sizeable donation this summer to each entity to offer their support for first responders in Lake County.

Thank you to all the sponsors and those who donated and played for the 1st Annual MFD/FOP Lodge 5 golf tournament!!
