Our community continues to walk with a heavy heart and mind following the death of Corey Ruiz. We acknowledge that this tragedy took place just blocks away from our former Chrysalis office—a neighborhood deeply rooted in our organization's history. Our thoughts are with Corey's family, friends, and all who feel this loss.
This tragedy shines a light on issues that are far from new: accessible mental health and recovery support, stable housing, meaningful employment, economic security, strong relationships, and spaces where people are treated with dignity.
Real change is needed across so many systems, and we must create space to dream and co-create what true communities of healing and joy look like. As we do this work, we must also center the voices of those most impacted by these inequities. It is imperative that everyone has a space where they feel seen, heard, and experience genuine belonging.
We offer our deep gratitude to all the individuals, communities, and organizations who show up for themselves and each other every day. We at Chrysalis are committed to being part of creating a community that centers healing and belonging. We've recently purchased a building, not far from the memorial site, with the hope of broadening access to our support in the Madison community and for those with the greatest need. We are grounding this commitment in a permanent home. There is growing demand for community-based services, and we are committed to remaining present, responsive, and sustainable even as resources become more constrained.
