Wednesdays in summer bring more than just fresh produce to the Dane County Farmers’ Market; they bring opportunity.

Through our Market Harvest program, Second Harvest purchases unsold produce from vendors and delivers it directly to local food pantries the same day to avoid waste. It goes straight to families across southwestern Wisconsin.

Vendors like Danielle Clark of Clark Family Mushrooms have been part of this effort since the beginning.

As she puts it: “Without Second Harvest… we would just be wasting [the mushrooms]. The fact that they get cooked that night…it makes our hearts so happy.”

Market Harvest is a part of our Farm to Foodbank Initiative. Learn more & get involved at secondharvestsw.org/f2f

Most eligible families will get these benefits automatically, but some households with students who attend schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) will need to apply.

There are steps families can take now to see if their children qualify for Summer EBT for summer 2026. If you’re interested in applying for Summer EBT, visit the Wisconsin Summer EBT application site (wisconsin.summerebtapp.com/begin) or contact 211 or the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for more information.

Thoughtful programs like “Meal Kit Monday” at Jefferson Food Pantry WI are helping make healthy, home-cooked meals more accessible for local families. 🧡🍽️

Families can pick up bags filled with ingredients for a complete meal—with the recipe attached right to the outside!

Programs like this do more than provide food. They help create approachable, nutritious meal options while taking some of the stress out of mealtime.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers at Jefferson Food Pantry for continuing to find creative ways to support neighbors across the community!

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate moms like Nyx, a mother of two from Baraboo. After experiencing health complications from surgery, Nyx has been unable to work and now relies on disability income to support her family.

“I’m on disability, but it doesn’t go very far. It’s less than $1,200 per month,” she shared. “So I visit a food pantry nearby to make sure that we’re able to get the fresh fruits and vegetables so the kids can have what they need to grow and continue to thrive in life.”

Across the United States, about one-third of households with an adult receiving disability benefits experience food insecurity. Thanks to your ongoing support, moms like Nyx can continue putting nourishing food on the table for their families.

The nation’s largest one-day food drive is happening at YOUR mailbox this Saturday!

In partnership with the US Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers, May 9 is Stamp Out Hunger! Just place a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox, and your letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it to help neighbors facing hunger right here in southwestern Wisconsin.

When you participate, you’re helping Second Harvest and our partners keep shelves stocked and food moving to families, children, and seniors across our community.

We want to give a HUGE thank you to Gordon Flesch Company for helping make our first-ever Breakfast of Champions such a success!

After weeks of community voting, Frosted Flakes took the crown—and thanks to our sponsors, 11 pallets (that’s half a semi-truck full!) of the winning cereal are now headed to the partner pantries we support.

We’re so grateful for your partnership in helping provide one of the most requested pantry items to families across our communities!
