The water fountain we were able to buy with a $1,700 Indiana Parks Alliance grant has been installed by our wonderful Park Staff on the Nature Center at the edge of the Bird Room (thanks MBB comment). This morning was invasive control work day: clearing invasives from a new connector trail in progress from the campground to Canyon Road near Poplar Grove and the trailhead for Trail 3 near Beech Grove. Large oriental bittersweet easy to find. Pat in the lead with Bill and Ken. Next work day is Thursday June 25.

Invasive species work started off again this morning, greeted by a brief shower. Project leader Pat led us to some spots around the new (yet to be finished) Campground playground that we worked on extensively earlier in the year. Then we worked to clear around some nearby campsites. Left some nifty piles of debris for park staff to pick up.

Our invasive species removal leader Pat is ready to start up our invasive species work again. Thursday June 11, Wednesday June 17, and Thursday June 25. For the first week, the group will meet at the campground gate at 9 and work is planned until 1 (or as long as people can work). Locations and times for other days tba. It did not take long for the Purple Martins to move in to the structure installed earlier this year by the Park Staff, with maintenance assistance from the Friends of Clifty Falls. It is located near the Clifty Shelter and playground at the north end of the Park. Find a spot nearby to watch their busy activity and listen to their cool calls.

A hard working volunteer crew from Fairfield Inn repainted the campground’s amphitheater. Friends members Jim and Bill supervised and did a lot of painting too. Thanks to all. Last year we rehabbed the place with new seats, “screen”, and some stage boards.
