Dear NCNCA Racers,
You may be wondering why kids’ sports are happening in your area but bike races aren’t yet. Unlike some other sports events, our promoters face a complex process to gain permits from counties and cities, which includes having a Covid mitigation plan in place. At our recent promoter’s meeting, we shared and reviewed an extensive mitigation plan crafted by Robert Leibold and Matt Martinez. We’re looking forward to using this document as a starting point for permit applications and a start to our 2021 racing season.
You’re probably also wondering how will racing will be different. Well...cross a bike race with the current process of going shopping or to work, if you work outside the home. Think masks when not racing, very limited contact, social distancing, pre-reg only, removing the mask just before you start, and no group podium shots. Anticipate bringing your own water and snacks, and being self sufficient at races.
For a while, fields might be a little smaller, races a little shorter, or run in heats, and everyone will need to work together to make this work. Racing could extend into the fall, but we still need to leave time for cross. We hope to have championships later in the season and will open up submissions to host when we have more certainty in the schedule. BAR, BAT, Premier, Women’s Series, and Junior Series will happen when it makes sense. We’ll keep you in the loop on all of it.
In the meantime, we encourage you to join an upcoming NCNCA e-race on Zwift or RGT! Look for announcements via email and on Facebook about how to participate.
We feel lucky that racing will likely be possible this year and look forward to continuing to partner with our NCNCA promoters to make it happen as soon - and as safely - as possible..
Best,
NCNCA Board of Directors
