Details about response to Isaias.

Hurricane Isaias made landfall Friday evening in the Florida Panhandle as a Category 2 hurricane. MNA Disaster Response had staff members on the ground on Saturday morning performing assessments and starting to assist churches in the relief effort. There are three opportunities for you to help.

Pray
Please pray for the churches in the area and for those impacted by the storm. Pray that God would soften hearts and that Christ's mercy would be seen in our volunteers as they serve their neighbors. Pray for safety for the volunteers, strength and good rest for the staff, volunteers, and churches. And most of all, pray that people would come to know Jesus through this storm and its aftermath.

Volunteer chainsaw teams are needed at two sites in Florida: Cantonment and Niceville. Each site is set up to operate initially for two weeks. This could change depending on the amount of work that is done and additional work orders received. If you are interested in bringing a team to either site, please follow these steps:
- Visit this webpage to learn what is required to volunteer: https://www.pcamna.org/dr-volunteer Each volunteer must complete a volunteer application, background check and liability release form.
- Contact Tim Busch ([email protected]) to let him know that you would like to bring a team to serve. He will schedule your team and send you the appropriate Site Data Sheet, along with the Liability Release form for each member of your team to print, sign, and submit to the site manager.

Teams that do not need overnight lodging must still complete all the requirements, but please let Tim know that you will not need a place to stay. PLEASE DO NOT SELF DEPLOY, AND PLEASE DO NOT BRING OR SEND ITEMS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED.

Thank you for your support of this ministry, which serves PCA churches as they minister to their neighbors in their time of need.

Blessings,
Mike Kennamer

Lots going on with MNA Disaster Response. We are not sure yet if we will need volunteers, but this post tells you how to register to be a volunteer should they be needed.

MNA Disaster Response staff have been busy today checking on churches in the path of Isaias, assessing damage, and getting out and serving. Central Gulf Coast Regional Specialist Bruce Cullen will continue assessments tomorrow in Florida and Florida Regional Specialist Curt Moore will arrive to help share the load. Florida Regional Specialist Keith Perry will be delivering a mini track loader to support the teams.

Those on the ground are not asking for volunteers yet, but we will let you know if that changes in the coming days. It usually takes a few days to get a good picture of what is needed. If you are interested in serving, please follow this link to pre-register as a volunteer. https://www.pcamna.org/dr-volunteer

If you wish to donate to the relief effort, follow the link below and select "Disaster Response General Fund" under the "Select a Ministry" dropdown menu. Your gifts will be used to help with response expenses. http://donate.pcamna.org/disasterresponse

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Rachel is threatening southern California with coastal flooding. We will share any needs with you as we hear about them.

As Hurricane Isaias continues to travel north this morning, we continue to monitor its progress. One way to do so is to watch the power outage maps, which shows power outages by county and by power company when you zoom in on a state.

This morning, MNA DR staff will be checking in with churches to see if the storm has resulted in needs that exceed the capacity of the church.

You may contribute to this work by giving at this link: http://donate.pcamna.org/disasterresponse. Select "Disaster Response General Fund" in the drop down menu under Gift Details. Any donations go to help support our work in the ministry.

Remember that we respond at the request of the local church, to come alongside the church as they minister to their neighbors.

If you’ve been watching our posts the past few days you have seen radar images, spaghetti maps, and both physics- based and AI generated models. We submit one more indicator of the seriousness of this storm.

Lots of activity this morning as we prepare for Isaias to come ashore. TS Rachel is also a potential issue that we will be watching closely as well. We are positioning equipment in preparation for Isaias. Please pray for those who will be impacted. Visit pcamna.org/disasterresponse to give to the DR General Fund to help with this response and to learn how to volunteer.

September Update: New Role, No Workday in October, and Prayer Requests -

As noted above, I started a new job on September 1. But the other two roles I held within MNA Disaster Response have not yet been filled so I am doing what needs to be done in those. On September 1, I met with MNA Interim Coordinator Steve Dowling and MNA Executive Coordinator Murray Lee to go over....

August Update - Losing Wheels & Leading Training -

August was a whirlwind of activity, especially toward the end of the month. On August 5 I worked at the warehouse and then loaded a mini track loader onto a trailer with the intention to drive it home so I could leave early Friday morning for Birmingham. But it did not work out exactly as I had plan...
