When Christians seek to celebrate the foundation of Christmas, they collide with what’s been called the scandal of the holiday. Jesus was born to a family not of power and wealth, but of poverty and humility-a family soon forced to flee, to become homeless refugees, their infant son targeted for death by the insecurities of a king. It resonates with the reality of many who have been our neighbors but are now themselves forced into hiding or exile. Many, particularly those of Mexican heritage, are drawing inspiration in these difficult times from the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Friday was our last Let's Go Together meet-up of the year at the Burlington Library! Last Sunday we had our Anacortes Let's Go Together meet-up, complete with farmer's market hummus and homemade, gluten-free chocolate chip oatmeal bars. All of us were so focused on connecting with our neighbors that we forgot to step back and take a picture of us all coming together. Let's remember to take pictures so that we can share them next time!

Last night leaders from across Skagit County gathered for our Let's Go Together Council meeting to strengthen relationships, talk about next steps for moving forward together as a community, and share wisdom about how to create spaces where we can truly see each other. Political violence cannot be justified. It is up to every group to gather neighbors together help us see one another as human beings. It is up to leaders at every level to both speak truth in this moment and diminish the tensions between groups and political parties.
