SEPTEMBER PRESENTATION

Our September presenter is Tanya Hough. Tanya studied at Ringling School of Art. After retiring from teaching, she began painting full-time, largely to help navigate the anxiety and grief surrounding the decline of her aging parents. From there, painting morphed into a way of life.
“Color has always attracted my imagination and exploring it in paintings makes me happy. I paint primarily with acrylics, though I immerse myself in other media such as colored pencil, watercolor and occasional multimedia and collage. I love the challenges of new subjects and varied approaches, and I adore using the palette knife and varying brushwork and surfaces.”

Please bring 1 or 2 watercolor brushes or waterbrushes, water containers, and watercolor paper to the meeting.

May 2026 Presenter: Rebecca L. Jefferson (Hillcrest Art Club Member)

Topic: Exploration with Momigami in Multi Media Collage

Rebecca (Becky) began her art experience after retiring from the Cleveland Municipal School District. Following her retirement, she signed up for a watercolor class at the Cleveland Heights Community Center. Before the class ended, her instructor suggested that she attend Cuyahoga Community College for art classes. She then took several art classes in the 60+ Program. Thereafter, she continued art classes in the Encore Program at Tri-C. Over the years she has had a number of instructors who taught various media at a number of locations.

In this workshop she will demonstrate her latest work submitted in the April 2026 Art Show entitled "Beyond the Eyes", where she used Momigami in the headdress of her portrait.

Workshop attendees will participate in creating Momigami using various papers in a project. Materials to bring: pencil, ruler, scissors, glue stick that dries clear, hand or body lotion (optional), old credit card for smoothing the paper (or an object that will suffice), and plastic grocery bag or newspaper to protect the table from glue.

Our April presenter was Joyce Morrow Jones. She is one of our new members!

Joyce is a mixed media fiber artist and Teaching Artist who conducts programming for learners of all ages.
She presented a show-and-tell of different types of textiles and patterns used in clothing and decorative arts and show how she has incorporated African fabric into new art forms.
Joyce moderated a workshop where participants explored various patterns and designs from West Africa through examining actual textiles and fabric. A craft activity that allowed participants to create from samples.

Our creations came out great.
