Little miss Soph was told that she probably wouldn’t walk before she turned two because of how weak her left side seemed to be and at the time we believed it.
We spent countless amount of times helping her up after she fell trying to lean on her left leg, we took a trip to the ER, and some days her left hand just doesn’t want to work as well as her right.

She looked at us sideways and said “WATCH THIS”
She has moved mountains and this girl is an inspiration!

💚Any child with CP is a miracle and is beyond loved 💚

Good luck today to the amazing VBC team. They were sweet enough to choose septo optic dysplasia to be the cause that they play for. Last year they played their hearts out and I know they will do the same again this year ❤️🩶💙

I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone for their love and support.

My name is Katelyn Howdyshell and I am the founder of Rae of Hope. We started after our daughter was diagnosed blind with a rare disease that causes the optic nerves to develop. Blind is a word that not everyone really understands. Most people think that when you’re blind, you don’t see anything at all and the world is black. Being blind is a broad spectrum that means that you have vision that is poor and may be as bad as being no vision at all. There are so many people in this world who are considered blind and are trying to live a normal life. Our goal is to help support children who have been diagnosed blind, have developmental issues, or have a diagnosis such as autism. We want these kids to feel normal and feel like they are included in a world that is not inclusive. Rae of hope wants us to be there as a community. Every child deserves to feel loved no matter what disability they have. We are here for EVERY child with a disability, not just ours, and want them to always know that they are brave, strong, and unique.

With all the love,
Katelyn 🤍

The community came through to help Staunton family purchase a wheelchair-accessible van for their 9-year-old daughter with Rett Syndrome.

Every baby is special and perfect in their own ways. Never forget that they are trying ❤️

Don’t forget the kids who are doing the extra work.

The kids whose days don’t end with the final bell, the kids whose breaks don’t follow a school calendar.

The kids who spend their afternoons being shuttled to speech, or PT, or OT.

The kids whose schedules include services and therapies, on top of everything else.

The kids who need extra help and support.

The kids who are struggling to overcome barriers—whether physical, mental, or emotional.

The kids who don’t follow the typical schedules, hit the expected milestones, take the traditional path.

The kids who might need different strategies and tools to help them learn.

These kids are working so hard, too.

They’re tired, too, even if their successes seem smaller or maybe even completely unnoticeable to most.

There likely won’t be any awards for them at the end of the year, or special recognition for how far they’ve come.

But take it from me—they are working SO dang hard.

Don’t forget to acknowledge their efforts.

Because what might be a small hurdle on the track for most kids, could be a Herculean task for a kid who has to try 10 times harder just to make it to the starting line.

These kids might not excel in traditional ways, but there’s nothing unexceptional about them.

Because they work harder for every win, and they don’t take a single bit of it granted.
