What does a year of investing in Lynchburg’s young people look like? 💛💙

It looks like elementary students beginning to imagine what’s possible. High school students building plans for what comes next. Young people gaining paid, real-world experience with local employers. Graduates continuing toward college, careers, and the futures they’ve worked toward.

Our 2025-2026 Annual Report tells the story of that work and of the community that makes it possible.

To every individual, business, foundation, school, college, and community partner who invested alongside us this year: you have a place in this story.

We kicked off our field trips for this semester today at University of Lynchburg!

Our students had a great time exploring the campus, eating in the dining hall, meeting their Admissions counselor, and ending the day with Kona Ice!

Thank you University of Lynchburg for a great day!

After more than 12 years with Lynchburg Beacon of Hope, Executive Director Leidra McQueen is passing the torch.

Beginning September 4, Deputy Director Dennis Coan will serve as Interim Executive Director as Leidra begins a new chapter in her professional journey.

For Leidra, this transition comes with tremendous pride: pride in the team that has grown this work, the relationships built throughout Lynchburg, and the thousands of young people who have been part of Beacon’s story.

And the person stepping into this role already knows that story well.

Dennis joined Beacon in 2020 as Future Center Director at Heritage High School after more than a decade teaching in Lynchburg City Schools. He went on to lead Beacon’s K-12 programming and most recently became Deputy Director. Along the way, he has worked alongside our students, families, schools, business partners, supporters, and staff; relationships that will remain at the center of his leadership.

Today, we celebrate Leidra and the extraordinary chapter she has helped write. And we welcome Dennis into this new role, excited for all that comes next.

The leadership may be changing, but the mission continues. 💙

Come back to school with a fresh start! 📚

Glow Up at Glass helped students return to school with confidence, meaningful connections, and a fresh look. Every service provided during the event was completed by volunteers, making it easier for parents to prepare for the new school year without the added expense.

We deeply appreciate all of our providers for their time and effort during this event. Together, we helped students begin the school year with confidence as they work toward their future.

Thank you to our providers: Kara, Ted & Ted’s Barber Shop, Peyton 💜 Lynchburg, VA, Sara Lynchburg Nail Technician 📍, and Tay
