In WarGames, the threat was a computer running simulations without understanding the consequences.

Today, the concern is no longer science fiction. As AI becomes deeply integrated into critical infrastructure, cloud environments, financial systems, transportation networks, and national security operations, a new category of cyber threat is emerging.
Modern AI systems are creating attack surfaces unlike anything previously seen in computing. From neural trojans and dormant payloads hidden inside model weights to sponge attacks designed to exhaust GPU infrastructure, the future of cyber conflict may involve AI systems targeting the very infrastructure that powers artificial intelligence itself.

The danger is not artificial consciousness. The danger is operational amplification. AI dramatically increases the speed, scale, automation, and accessibility of offensive cyber operations while introducing entirely new risks involving model poisoning, adversarial scheduling, infrastructure manipulation, and machine-speed attacks operating below the visibility of traditional security tools.

The next era of cybersecurity may not simply be about protecting users, applications, or networks. It may (or will) be about protecting the computational backbone of AI itself.

In 1983, a movie called WarGames asked a simple question: what happens when an autonomous system gets connected to something that matters—without understanding the consequences of what it's doing? The WOPR supercomputer didn't have malicious intent. It was running simulations, optimizing for outco...

Happy Monday! ☀️

We’re starting the week off with a little inspiration from our recent Women in Tech event. One piece of advice that really stood out was:

✨ “Never underestimate your ability to learn something new. Growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” ✨

Every expert was once a beginner, and every big opportunity starts with the courage to try. Keep pushing forward, keep learning, and keep believing in yourself this week. 💻💡

What’s one goal you’re working toward this Monday? 👇

With the recent Canvas-related cybersecurity incident impacting higher education, institutions need to be proactive not only in their technical response, but also in their communications strategy.
If they have not already done so, schools should ensure that the CEO, Chief Information Officer, VP of Communications, and other members of the executive leadership team are aligned and communicating clearly with students, families, faculty, and staff about what happened, what is being done to address the situation, and where people can go for updates or support.
Clear communication during incidents like this helps reduce speculation, prevent misinformation from spreading, and maintain confidence within the campus community. It can also help mitigate reputational and financial impacts that often accompany large-scale cybersecurity events.

It is equally important for institutions to remind their communities that incidents like this are part of a broader national cybersecurity challenge affecting organizations across higher education and are not isolated to one institution alone.

Cybersecurity response today is not just about systems and infrastructure — it is also about leadership, transparency, and communication.

Instructure just confirmed a data breach — hackers got into Canvas and walked away with student names, emails, and private teacher-student messages from potentially 9,000 schools. ShinyHunters is claiming 231 million records. If your school runs on Canvas, keep an eye on your inbox for anything suspicious.

The data breach at education tech giant Instructure includes students' private data, according to a sample of the allegedly stolen data seen by TechCrunch.

Do you use TikTok? Like many apps, users need to be aware of how it functions. A new report highlights that TikTok may still collect data about you even if you don’t actively use the app. This isn’t about conspiracy or overreaction — it’s about how modern web tracking works. Many websites embed third-party tracking pixels and analytics code, which can collect device details, browsing behavior, and IP information whenever those pages load.

In other words, you don’t have to open TikTok for some level of data collection to occur. Simply visiting sites that include its tracking technology can contribute to advertising and behavioral profiling across the web.

This isn’t meant to cause panic, but awareness. Understanding how tracking ecosystems operate helps us make informed decisions about browser settings, privacy controls, and the digital footprint we leave behind.

TikTok is growing its data harvesting empire, and avoiding the app won’t protect you – but some easy steps can keep you safe.

AI isn’t destroying education. It’s exposing something we’ve ignored for years.
We built a system that rewards finished products instead of how students think.

Now that AI can generate polished work in seconds, that weakness is impossible to hide.

The real question isn’t whether students used AI.

It’s whether they can explain how they arrived at their ideas.

If we want graduates who are ready for the real world, we need to stop teaching to tests and start teaching how to think — especially in a world where AI is everywhere.
