A perfect day for fresh air, play, and making memories at Luxemburg City Park.

📅 National Kids to Parks Day 2026

National Kids to Parks Day is Saturday, May 16, 2026. Celebrated every year on the third Saturday of May, this nationwide event—organized by the National Park Trust—encourages families to get outdoors and explore local, state, and national parks.

Even though we’re celebrating right here at home, Luxemburg City Park carries that same spirit of adventure, discovery, and family fun.

🌿 Bring the kids out to:

• Play on the equipment
• Run the trail (2.86 laps = 1 mile)
• Explore nature
• Have a picnic
• Burn off some energy after school

💚 Why it matters

Kids to Parks Day is all about helping children build a lifelong love of the outdoors. Our local park is the perfect place to spark that joy.

Let’s get our kids outside, moving, and enjoying the park we all love.

We’re officially 18 days away from the May 25 deadline — and this is your sign to rally your crew, pick your team name, and get registered for the 2026 Summer Volleyball Recreational League at Luxemburg Park.

Whether you’re in it to win it or just ready for some sunshine, laughs, and friendly competition, now’s the time to lock in your spot. Teams are forming fast, and we want YOU on the court with us this summer.

How to turn in your registration:

• 🛒 Drop it off at Ungs Shopping Center in Luxemburg

Gather your team, lock in your tee time, and get registered for the 4‑Man Best Shot Golf Tournament—a fun, retro‑themed day on the course that brings our whole community together. Spots will go fast, so signing up early is the best way to guarantee your place.

🇺🇸 All funds raised will go directly toward building the Veterans Memorial in Luxemburg City Park.
Your participation doesn’t just support a tournament—it helps create a lasting tribute to the men and women who served, right here in our hometown.

Karen King-Schieltz

April is ❤️National Volunteer Month ❤️ and Keep Iowa Beautiful is going to finish April highlighting a couple amazing volunteers.

Today we are shining the spotlight on Karen Schieltz!!! Karen volunteers for a variety of organizations, including Keep Luxemburg Beautiful! Along with many other volunteers at Keep Luxemburg Beautiful, she has been involved with a number of projects like Music in the Park, the Keep Luxemburg Beautiful Scavenger Hunt, park tree planting, organizing a summer volleyball league, a golf tournament and tons more!

In addition to her work with Keep Luxemburg Beautiful, Karen is involved with several other organizations including American Legion & Veterans Support, Highview Cemetery, Women in Manufacturing, John Deere Military Resource Group and the John Deere Buyer Engagement Team. 🤩

In her own words, “volunteering gives me purpose, joy, and the opportunity to help build something meaningful for others. I love anything that strengthens community pride—from beautification projects to local events. I enjoy creative work, organizing activities, and finding ways to make our small towns feel welcoming, connected, and cared for. I’m also passionate about supporting veteran focused initiatives and helping create spaces that honor service and tradition.” Her favorite part of volunteering is “seeing how small actions can create real impact.”

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors and antiquing! Karen is shown here with her family!

🌿 Reminder: Our New Walking Path Is Now Officially Open

As we celebrate the opening of Luxemburg’s new community walking path, we want to keep it safe, welcoming, and in great condition for everyone.

To protect the surface and ensure long‑term use, motorized vehicles are not permitted on the path. This includes scooters, mopeds, golf carts, and similar transportation.
Mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers are always welcome.

Keeping the path free of motorized traffic helps:

• Maintain safety for walkers, runners, and families
• Prevent surface damage and erosion
• Preserve the trail for years of community use

Thank you for helping us take care of this new addition to our park. More enhancements are on the way soon.
