In this edition, our Executive Director Jordan Bantuelle shared highlights over the past year. In addition to forming a registered Mississippi nonprofit organization and IRS certified 501c3 and setting up the website and IT backend, we also accomplished so much in support of our education and conservation mission!

We host one of the largest gopher tortoise populations West of the Tombigbee River and the highest number of Black Pine Snake sightings in the state. We have submitted 9 grant applications to identify funding for habitat restoration for these endangered species. So far, we have received $1,500 grant funding received thanks to the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund!

🌿 Welcome to Burrow Nature Center🌿

We’re a new nonprofit rooted in the piney hills of the Gulf Coast, dedicated to restoring our native longleaf pine savanna and reconnecting people—especially children—with the land.

Inspired by the gopher tortoise who calls our sandhills in southern Mississippi home, we believe in building shared spaces where biodiversity and community thrive together. Through our Forest School, kids discover confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love for nature. Our Adult Programs equip locals with conservation training, permaculture skills, and pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

We’re planting the seeds for a resilient future—and we need your help to grow. 🌱

Your donation supports habitat restoration, outdoor education, and a new generation of environmental stewards.
