Teen to Face Capital Murder Trial in Death of USM Football Player.

Orlando May will face life without the possibility of parole if convicted in the death of USM football player MJ Daniels. Daniels was a 21-year-old senior defensive back, who previously played at Ole Miss before transferring to Southern Miss. Daniels was shot in the head while in his car at his apartment complex. Daniels' murder was a result of an attempted carjacking, according to prosecutors.

In February, co-defendants Allen Marcus Gardner pleaded guilty to 1st degree murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and Samir Green pleaded guilty to 1st degree murder. May was eighteen at the time of the 2024 crime. Green was sixteen and Gardner was seventeen. Both Green and Gardner are set to testify against May.

In a pretrial hearing today, May's attorney attempted to prevent an alleged confession by May from coming before the jury. That motion was denied.

The family of M.J. Daniels and the M.J. Daniels Memorial Scholarship will hold a raffle on May 2.

1st Prize: $225
2nd Prize: $125
3rd Prize: $100

Raffle tickets can be purchased at First State Bank and Glen Oaks Nursing Home.

All proceeds will benefit a deserving Class of 2025 senior who will receive the memorial scholarship.

Please like and follow his Memorial Page for updates. Scholarship application instructions have been emailed to all seniors by the high school counselors.

Donations can be made at First State Bank.
