Samantha Carrillo Fields

Samantha Carrillo Fields Perpetual optimist and political activist I know what it's like to eat ramen for dinner each day of the week. Struggle or not, these were the facts of my life.

Born and raised in Lubbock I attended the oldest elementary school in town, Dupre, (shout out to the Texas Tech Junior Committee for Champions!) and beginning my journey in community service in the Dunbar Junior High Student Council, my roots run deep in this district. After I graduated from Monterey High School in 2005, I left the area to attend Eastern New Mexico University right across the stat

e line and received my Bachelor's in Fine Arts in Theatre. From there, I moved through an assortment of jobs from waitress, seasonal sales associate, a breastfeeding peer counselor at WIC, and a teaching assistant at a Parents Day Out program, all the while following my husband throughout his graduate studies and raising two children. I have been involved in local politics for just over two years, devoting much of my time to voter registration and community outreach. Food stamps, Medicaid, and WIC: I have been there, both as an advocate and a recipient .I remember the pride I felt seeing my children's growth stay on track. I remember the "treat" it was getting Papa Murphy's pizza on EBT. How many representatives can relate to these experiences and how many of them are willing to defend these programs that act as stepping stones for the most vulnerable of our communities?
