ANNOUNCING THE 2026 CINCO DE MAYO PARADE GRAND MARSHAL ~ A.J. Castillo!

Los Hermanos Familia is proud to announce that A.J. Castillo will be the 2026 thanks to our media sponsor Magic 106.5 Lubbock!
A.J. Castillo has brought Tejano music to a younger crowd, which he says needed to happen for it to survive.
A push against tradition is what catapulted Tejano music to its creative and commercial peak in the '90s.
Selena and La Mafia became international superstars by incorporating pop and R&B into the mix. Emilio Navaira channeled George Strait and enjoyed a country crossover career. They were risk-takers amid so many pat sounds.
But the constant push and pull of Tejano music is what has since stunted the genre's growth. Diehard fans hold fast to an old-school sound and scoff at change. Tejano radio stations have largely vanished. New artists are frequently ignored in favor of headliners who have been doing it for decades.
AJ Castillo, an accordion player and singer from Austin, has shaken things up.
He built on the traditional cumbia rhythm by incorporating modern elements into his subsequent releases. It's most effectively displayed on 2014's "Sin Limites," which casts Castillo as a Tejano-pop heartthrob.

Luckily, his fans will get to welcome him at the Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade of Lubbock, as Los Hermanos Familia kicks off Cinco de Mayo festivities with the 13th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade, sponsored by Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers

This year's theme, "Anything for Selenas..." encourages participants to pay tribute to the iconic legend also known as the Queen of Tejano, and they're encouraged to include a white rose to honor her memory.

Join us Sat., May 2, down Historic Broadway, starting at 10 a.m. for the Cinco De Mayo Parade of Lubbock!

There's still time to register your float.
