🌱 Celebrating Growth, Enterprise & Opportunity.

Yesterday, 23 women from Buffelshoek, Mpumalanga Province, graduated from our Women in Entrepreneurship Programme. 🎓

But this is more than a graduation. It is the beginning of an economic journey.

The women started with self-discovery and confidence building, before developing practical skills in business management, hydroponics and permaculture farming, agro-processing and product development.

And the results are already taking shape.

💚 3 emerging businesses have been established:

🌿 Healthy Vibes – producing herbal teas
🧼 Ubuntu Glow – producing turmeric soap
🍅 Green Shine – growing vegetables and producing tomato relish

These women will continue to be incubated and mentored at our Community Eco Hub as they strengthen their businesses and work towards sustainable livelihoods.

This is what happens when women are given the opportunity, the tools and the support to build.

23 women have taken the first step. Imagine what we can achieve with hundreds more. 🌱

Last week, 100 new laying hens arrived at Masweng Primary School, ensuring that learners will continue enjoying fresh eggs as part of their school nutrition programme.

For many children, these eggs provide an important source of protein and essential nutrients that support healthy growth, learning, and wellbeing.

Our Wild Hope Warriors had an unforgettable weekend of learning, adventure and discovery at Koru Camp! 🌿🦒🦅

From exciting morning and afternoon game drives to bird bingo, animal charades, learning about animal diets and adaptations, tackling the bird nest challenge, and sharing stories around the campfire about wildlife conservation and the impact of poaching, every activity inspired curiosity and a deeper appreciation for our natural world.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous A Spring of Hope donors for making experiences like this possible. Your support opens doors for young people to learn, grow and connect with nature in meaningful ways.

✨ FROM SETBACKS TO SUCCESS: ZAMA’S JOURNEY ✨

At A Spring of Hope, we believe opportunities can change lives. Today, we’re proud to share Zama’s inspiring journey — proof that with determination, support, and the right opportunity, a new future is possible.

“In 2010, I proudly completed my matric and dreamed of studying Psychology and Communications. Like many young people, I had big dreams and a vision for my future. Although I was unable to complete my studies due to personal circumstances, I refused to let that define me.

I entered the hospitality industry and worked my way up from handling reservations to becoming the General Manager of a small hotel. The experience taught me leadership, resilience, and the importance of excellent customer service.

Then COVID-19 changed everything.

The hotel closed permanently, and I lost my job.

Instead of giving up, I started my own confectionery and catering business. Running my own business taught me perseverance, creativity, and the courage to keep moving forward even when the future felt uncertain.

While building my business, I was introduced by A Spring of Hope to the free Virtual Assistant training opportunity through AVAhub and SimplifyVAS.

I decided to take a chance on myself.

Those three weeks changed my life!

I gained practical digital skills, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. More importantly, the programme reminded me that no matter your circumstances, you always have the power to reinvent yourself.

After completing the course, I was blessed with the opportunity to join SimplifyVAS as a Virtual Assistant Trainer.

Today, I have a fulfilling career that allows me to support my family, stand on my own feet, and help others begin their own journeys in the virtual assistant industry.

To every young person who feels uncertain about their future — this opportunity is REAL.

Your current circumstances do not determine your final destination.

This week, an inspiring group of women began their journey towards building brighter futures through entrepreneurship, agriculture and agro-processing at the A Spring of Hope Community Eco Hub.

Over the first week, participants explored personal development, confidence building, the entrepreneurial mindset, goal setting, hydroponics, sustainable farming and food production skills. By taking this important step, these women are investing in themselves, their families and their communities.

We are incredibly proud of their commitment, courage and willingness to learn. Every successful entrepreneur starts with a single step, and this week they have taken that step with determination and hope.

A heartfelt thank you to the Itirele Foundation Charitable Trust for sponsoring this programme and makig it possible for women in our community to access skills, mentorship and opportunities that can lead to sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment.

Big News from A Spring of Hope! 🌱

We are honoured to share that the A Spring of Hope Community Eco-Hub has been named a Top 10 Finalist in the Shoprite Act For Change competition.

This recognition affirms what we believe at our core — that hope becomes powerful when a community works together.

Through our eco-hub, we are transforming food waste into nourishment, gardens into classrooms, and local skills into sustainable livelihoods. From composting and sustainable food gardens to women and youth empowerment, every step we take is rooted in dignity, resilience and opportunity.

This milestone belongs to our volunteers, partners, youth, supporters, and every community member who believes in building a greener, more self-sustaining future.

We are deeply grateful for this acknowledgement and excited for what lies ahead.

No matter the final outcome, we remain committed to growing hope — sustainably and together.

Last month at Swank Farms, something truly special happened. 🌾✨

Upon the big beautiful barn, surrounded by nature’s beauty, our community gathered not just to celebrate, but to connect. Long-time and new supporters of A Spring of Hope broke bread prepared by nationally-acclaimed chefs specializing in South African fare, all while raising funds for those in need of clean, accessible water.

Because of YOU - our sponsors, donors, and friends - the evening was a powerful reminder of what happens when people come together to share a meal: hope grows. 🩵

Here’s to the moments we shared and to the impact we’ll continue to make together in South Africa.

We are deeply grateful to The Banking Association South Africa and it's incredible employees for going above and beyond in support of our learners. Through your generosity, undeserved learners at our partner school - Maatla Primary in Limpopo, received the much needed uniforms to kick start the new year - restoring dignity, confidence, and hope as they step into the classroom.
