On July 1st @ 2 Tanner St owned by the Markley group, an apparent oil spill of 75 gallons occurred during demolition involving the company Haugland group (remember that name). Clean harbors was called in to handle the clean up. MassDEP and Lowell Fire Department were reportedly made aware of the incident.

This incident was brought to our attention during a new business discussion at the Board of Health meeting. Conflicting reports suggest the Board of Health does not need to be notified of an oil spill if Clean Harbors completes the cleanup and MassDEP gives the all clear.

If that was the case why did Director Golden state she is customarily notified by MassDEP even before clean up?

We echo her closing sentiments "maybe it's lost in the mail" or is it?

Thank you DPD for holding a second data center discussion. It’s a powerful reminder that even strangers can come together, united by a common goal and a shared love for our city.

Honest Future members thank the residents who came out last night. We left feeling grateful, encouraged, and reminded that none of us are alone in this fight. Every conversation, and every voice matters as we work toward a better future.
It was a resounding NO to future data centers.

📢 Weds, Oct. 7: Data Center Community Engagement Event

All are invited to attend a second public engagement event on proposed data center zoning options, hosted by the Department of Planning and Development (DPD), on Wednesday, October 7, from 6:30 - 8:00PM at the Lowell Senior Center, 276 Broadway St.

The evening will feature moderated, small-group conversation. Participants will review and discuss the zoning options presented by DPD and share feedback.

Feedback collected will help inform any adjustments to the proposed zoning language before it moves to a zoning subcommittee for further discussion.

Again in 2020, Markley changed their original plans unannounced and began construction on water towers without approval and without being transparent to the community. Only when residents spoke up did Markley attempt to remedy the situation by portraying two large water tanks as a minor site plan modification. Blocking a resident's view and sticking them on top of her property line was more than minor... here's how it all went down.

Language for draft versions of the updated Zoning Ordinance

In 2015 Markley Group came to Lowell with plans that have changed over the 11 years since. What was presented to our community then it is not the reality our neighborhoods are living with today. We are not an afterthought. For 11 years, Sacred Heart and Back Central have been treated as a substandard, not worthy of transparency and accountability.

If a company can not demonstrate this to the people living next door to its existing operation, why should anyone expect a different experience when it expands in another neighborhood.
