The 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band performs music the Civil War era soldier would have loved to hear, whether it was the opera and folk music of the pre-war years, the music he heard on the battlefield and in the camp, or the music that evolved after the war.

On Tuesday, August 12, the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band will play a concert for the final Flag Retreat of the season at the Lincoln Tomb in Springfield. The concert starts at
6:00 pm and concludes in time for the audience to witness a 40+ year tradition at the Tomb - the Flag Retreat by the 114th Infantry Regiment Volunteers which begins at 7:00. Please come and listen to the music our soldiers heard in the camps, while preparing for battle, and even on the battlefield itself.

The 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band will be playing music for the runners in the 2nd Annual Hoop and HaberDash 5K Run at the Edwards Place Mansion/Springfield Art Association at 700 N 4th St, Springfield on Saturday, August 26 at 8am. Come out to see and encourage these brave athletes in their 1860's hoop skirts and suits as they complete a 5K run through the Edwards Place neighborhood. The Band will greet them with Civil War Period music when they cross the finish line and as they celebrate their victories (or near victories) in this race.

Next concert will be at the Illinois State Fair on Veterans Day, August 13 at 1:30 at the Lincoln Stage. Come on out to the Fair and honor our Veterans (who get in FREE that day) and listen to music that is all about the heritage of our soldiers who fought to save this country, to keep this country united and strong.

The Band has been busy this summer. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum is always a great venue to play. With new members in the band, we played in the plaza on July 12, and audience members had so many questions afterwards, it was an honor to talk to folks who are really interested in Civil War music and the "War Between the States."

On June 3, the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band played at the Pittsfield Civil War reenactment. At high noon, it was 95 degrees. What a great assembly of musicians to wear wool and make Civil War music for a wonderful crowd that appreciated historic music.

The 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band rehearsed at the University of Illinois Sousa Archives and Center for American Music with their Vintage Civil War horns in preparation for next weekend's (August 4, 7pm) Wide Awake Parade in Springfield, Illinois. It starts at the Lincoln Home and ends at the Old State Capitol, commemorating the Bicentennial of Illinois Statehood!
