Member Spotlight - Paul Binkley
I have been an Association Representative for TVHS since May of 2023, aside from being a member as a student teacher in 2016. In 2025, I served as one of the delegates for TEA at the CEA Delegate Assembly. I also served as an AR for FMHS in Fort Morgan for 2 years.
✊Why is TEA membership important to you?
Educators are continually de-professionalized by many politicians, administrators, and the public. This begins disturbingly close to home: often rearing its head in district-level administration. TEA helps fight for us and defend us as experts in our field. TEA has improved my career primarily through offering union representation when meeting with admin or in supporting me as an AR while I fill that role. This past spring was particularly tumultuous for our building as various non-renewals seemed suspiciously targeted and harmful to our students.
✊Do you have any advice for new members or those new to the profession?
Know your rights, including the right to have a representative present with you in meetings. I strongly encourage people to join TEA to help continue to fund and support our efforts, even if many of these rights are available to non-members as well. During a time of tight budgets and high administrative turnover at the district level, it is important to remember that many at the district level are there to protect "the company"; TEA is here to protect YOU as an employee and individual.
