Celebrating this historic moment that will forever connect our family to the National Western Stock Show and Championship Rodeo when Richard Rule had the highest marked ride in the bull riding during the final performance of National Western Stock Show in 1985. Richard shares his story about his 93 point ride on the unrideable Championship Rodeo bull called A-14 Sunni's Velvet in this video.

IN MEMORY:
Two-time PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year and largest rodeo producer in the country, Mike Cervi, is fondly remembered as 2026 kicks off the National Western Stock Show!
Did you know he owned the bucking bull called A-14 Sunni's Velvet?
Forty one years ago, Richard Rule rode A-14 to win the final round at the National Western Stock Show. This unridden Hereford bull was named after rodeo secretary Deb Backstrom and had a mean reputation of bucking off the best bull riders in the country, many of the likes of world champions Gay and Custer.
Richard's 93 point ride on A-14 sunni's Velvet held the record for the highest marked ride at NWSS for many years until the current record holder Semas beat it. Many aficionados who were there claim it was one of the best rides they had ever seen!
Today we pay tribute to Mike Cervi and Championship Rodeo for playing a valuable role in our meaningful project as we celebrate A-14 Sunni's Velvet and a memorable year at the National Western Stock Show! 12" bronze replicas of this spectacular ride can be purchased -richard-rule-project.square.site
