August 21 is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.
There are multiple organizations and agencies that recognize fentanyl awareness and prevention through different national awareness days and initiatives. At DOITFORJACK, we stand with anyone doing the work to educate young people, families and communities about the dangers of illicit fentanyl and counterfeit pills.

There is room for all of us in this fight. The more conversations we have, the more people we educate, and the more lives we have the opportunity to save..

We believe in the work the DEA is doing to educate communities about fentanyl, which is why DOITFORJACK is recognizing and promoting August 21 - National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

For us, fentanyl awareness also has a name.
Jack.
Jack was just 24 years old when his life was taken by illicit fentanyl. His death changed our family forever - and became the reason behind DOITFORJACK.

Since then, we have made it our mission to educate young people, parents, schools and communities about the dangers of illicit fentanyl and counterfeit pills.

We share Jack’s story because we believe education can save lives.
We believe conversations matter.

And we believe every young person deserves to understand the very real dangers of illicit fentanyl.

On August 21, we join families, organizations and agencies across the country in remembering the lives lost and continuing the work to prevent another family from experiencing this loss.

August 21 is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

Across the country, families, organizations, schools, communities and government agencies are coming together with one shared goal: educating people about the dangers of illicit fentanyl and preventing another life from being lost.

At DOITFORJACK, this mission is deeply personal. We do this for Jack. We do it for every family who has lost someone they love. And we do it for the lives we still have the opportunity to save.

So on Friday, we’re asking you to help us spread the message.
Wear your DOITFORJACK shirt.
Wear it to work. Wear it to school. Wear it to the grocery store. Wear it wherever your day takes you.
And when someone asks you:
“Who’s Jack?”
Tell them.
Tell them about Jack. Tell them about illicit fentanyl. Tell them about counterfeit pills. Have the conversation.
Because that is exactly why these shirts exist.

August 21 is bigger than one organization. It’s a national movement to save lives.

National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day brings together families, grassroots organizations, schools, communities and government agencies with one shared goal: educating people about the dangers of illicit fentanyl and preventing another life from being lost.

The DEA recognizes August 21 as National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, joining organizations and families across the country working to increase awareness. The DEA has also created its Faces of Fentanyl memorial to honor the thousands of lives lost to fentanyl poisoning and overdose.

The movement has received recognition beyond awareness organizations. In 2025, the U.S. Senate unanimously agreed to a resolution designating August 21, 2025, as Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day and encouraging Americans to educate young people and participate in drug-prevention efforts.

At DOITFORJACK, we believe there is room for every organization, every awareness campaign and every family willing to have this conversation.

We stand with anyone working to educate others about fentanyl.
And on August 21, we are proud to add Jack's name, Jack's story and our voices to this national effort.

Because awareness isn't about who gets the credit.
It's about who gets to come home.

As National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day approaches on August 21, we have one request for every parent: Please have the conversation.

It's back-to-school season.

Parents everywhere are packing backpacks, buying school supplies, moving kids into dorm rooms and dropping their children off at high schools, colleges and universities across the country.

There are hugs. Pictures. Tears. Excitement. And reminders to call home. Please add one more thing to that list...talk to them about fentanyl.

Tell them about the dangers of illicit fentanyl and counterfeit pills. Remind them that a pill that doesn't come directly from a licensed pharmacy may not be what they think it is.

Share Jack's story.
Jack was 24 years old. He had his whole life ahead of him. Illicit fentanyl took that future away — and changed our family forever.
We can't go back and have one more conversation with Jack.
But you can have one with your child.

Final Day at the DEA Fentanyl Free America Summit 2026

As the conference comes to a close, Tracy Vonderbrink is heading home with a heart that is both full and determined.

These past few days have been filled with powerful stories, meaningful conversations, and invaluable education. Every session reinforced why the work of the DOITFORJACK Foundation matters so deeply. Behind every statistic is a son, daughter, brother, sister, friend, or parent whose life was forever changed by fentanyl poisoning.

Tracy is bringing home more than information. She is bringing back new ideas, stronger partnerships, and renewed purpose to help educate our communities and prevent other families from experiencing the unimaginable loss that inspired our mission.

We are incredibly grateful to the DEA and everyone who shared their knowledge, experiences, and commitment to saving lives. This summit reminded us that while the fentanyl crisis is daunting, hope grows when people come together with a shared purpose.

The conference may be over, but our mission continues. In honor of Jack, and every life lost too soon, we will keep educating, advocating, and sharing the message that awareness saves lives.
