This week, we would like to highlight our $5,000 SHO Scholarship Winner, Autumn Maline and 2025 Platinum Sponsor ‘Road Builders Machinery & Supply Co, Inc. ‘

Autumn enrolled at Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, Ne for the fall of 2025 to begin her work towards her “Vet Tech” degree.

When asked what she thought of being selected as the recipient, she laughed. She shared, “I actually found out from an elementary teacher in my school before I was properly informed about being selected. I have really appreciated the funds. They definitely provided me the boost I needed to get started.”

Autum came to the SHO Event to receive her award; however, she stayed for the entire SHO event. “I have a lot of family members in the military, and it was really cool to see all the prizes and awards being given out.

Autum shared that her schooling is going really well. It is really hands on and she really enjoys her field. Her word of advice to all high school students is definitely apply, definitely apply for all the scholarships as you never know which one you might actually get awarded.

Once again, we want to thank Autumn, for applying for the scholarship, increasing her education and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. A big thank you goes out to Road Builders. Each one of our Platinum Sponsors makes a huge difference in the quality of our event and the experience that we provide for all of our participating servicemen and women.

We would like to take this time to thank and recognize Moss & Stewart (one of our ‘Platinum Sponsors’) along with all of our Board Members. They each play a vital role in putting the Servicemen of The Heartland Outdoors Events together.
President: Marc Krueger
Secretary: Jamye Sautter
Treasurer: Heather Janulewicz
Vice President: Scott Placzek

Other Board Members: John Gallaway, Darnell Janulewicz, Dennis Johnson, Laura Krueger, and LJ Treffer.

Immediately after the event, a meeting is held to discuss the last event and items needing attention. A date is selected for the next years’ event. Then, the groundwork begins in August, when calls go out to invite nominees to participate, guides to volunteer, and contact sponsor for their support. Donations and calendar pictures and designs are selected and put in for order. Items are tagged, people are thanked and before you know it, the next year's event arrives. Celebration and recognition are offered during the event while stories are shared, moments are captured, and memories are made.

We wish all the board members and community members could hear all the stories and gratitude shared by all the volunteers, sponsors, and participants. Unfortunately, the best we can do is to share the snippets we provide through the Facebook posts. And as one scrolls , we hope that everyone grasps that the imprint the event makes is deep and lasting.

Thank you, once again, board members for all the behind-the-scenes time and effort.

Raffles, Drawings, Birthday, and Prizes: “Oh My!”

Our SHO Event is made of so many parts. One part we don’t really give a lot of attention to that really helps make the Saturday night banquet more enjoyable are the Raffles, Drawings and Prizes. For 2025, we also took a moment to celebrate a birthday. Although we could say so much about the fun, laughter and stories for each sponsor, their donations and the prizes, I think the pictures say it better. So, here’s some pictures from our Saturday Night Banquet with many of the prizes and receipients.

A HUGE Thank You goes out to all of our 2025 participants, sponsors, and volunteers.

We are looking forward to our 2026 Outdoor Event scheduled for June 12th, 13th, and 14th.

Our 2025 Servicemen of the Heartland Outdoors event was a great success!
On this Valentines Day, we would like to share our love and appreciation for all our volunteers that guided in their own boats, provided their own gear, and volunteered their time away from their jobs and their families. We also want to shower our volunteers who helped set up the event venue, serve the food, and assist with the cleanup with some love. There are no words to share how much we appreciate all you do to help us provide the quality event for Servicemen of the Heartland Outdoors each year. Without your help, we could not possibly provide this event to thank all of the service men and women who sacrifice for our country and agreed to give up their weekend, on a chance that they might enjoy some time outdoors with us on the golf course or water. We couldn’t ask for a better experience for all.

The verbal feedback, the smiles, the activities, with the pictures and videos that share the memories made, say it all. The weekend was fun, eventful and memorable. The weekend was a success.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to help make our event a positive experience for all that participated. Thank you once again to all our volunteers, our guides and our sponsors (special shout out to Kuszak's Variety Store, Kuszak's Lumber and Supply), and most of all . . . thank you to all the servicemen and women that worked so hard to keep our communities and our country free and safe.

We hope you all have a Happy Valentines Day!!

For today’s post, we thank Servicemen Chandler Wagner for participating in our 2025 Outdoor event, our guide Ryan ‘Stubby’ Braun and another one of our Platinum Sponsors, Mackie Construction for their support. ‘Stubby’ volunteered to guide for our event and had the privilege of taking Chandler Wagner and his friend Tucker Stubbs out for their day of fishing as a thank you for their service.

Chandler Wagner, Served in the Army National Guard. He enlisted in May 2018 - and continues to serve today as a Platoon Sargent for the militance platoon in the 126th Chemical Battalion and continues to gain more skills. Chandler was nominated because of his outstanding dedication to the army reserve. His constant need to learn more and attending NCO School just shows he goes above and beyond in learning and leading a team. Chandler always puts others first.
Chandler shared that the I like how SHO accepted Venmo for the raffle items and that the items on the raffle were amazing. “I will Never forget any of it. The golfing the fishing the banquet, they were all awesome and meeting those who served before us was very unforgettable. Tucker probably caught the biggest fish he has ever caught during that fishing trip. Very memorable. The funny thing is we caught a ton of little fish the night before. maybe consider, It was a pretty packed filled weekend and it was all great. The challenge coin presentation was amazing. It will definitely be a memory I retain forever.”

Once again, we would like to thank Mackie Construction for their support, Stubby for the assist with guiding and a special thank you goes out to Chandler Wagner for all he has done for his communities and his continued service to our country.

02/02/2026

Volunteer Fire Fighter Marlin Schweitzer and his friend Larry Hadenfeldt joined us for our 2025 SHO Event, sponsored by platinum sponsor Kramer’s Wrecker Service, Inc, where Marlin celebrated his 74th birthday. Their guide/(s) Keith Ripp and his son took these gentlemen out on the boat for their Saturday fishing.

Marlin Schweitzer joined the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department on January 20, 1974. He has served 52 years with the department and during that time he served as the President many times. He has also been a training officer and served several years as Secretary/Treasurer. Marlin had just turned 74 yrs Young prior to our 2025 event and we celebrated his birthday. Today, Marlin is Still Serving on the Cairo Volunteer Fire & Rescue squad. He shared he will continue to serve until he “cannot serve any more.” Marlin was nominated to participate in our SHO event because “after 50 years of Service and at 70+ years of age still volunteering, I feel he is deserving of a little appreciation as he is a great asset to the Cairo Fire Department!”

Marlin shared the SHO event was more than he expected, he had a good time. “It was a couple hot days, but we still had a lot of fun golfing and fishing. The guide we had, put us under the shade in the boat so it was ALL good. I caught one really nice one and everyone caught a few that day. I thought the entire event was a great deal. That's why I plan to donate for this coming years event. Everyone treated everybody very well. I really enjoyed my time up there.”

It was a pleasure hosting Marlin and his friend Larry. We would like to thank them, our guide Keith Ripp, his son, and our Platinum Sponsors Kramer’s Wrecker Service, Inc. along with Marc & Laura Krueger for helping make this event what it is.
Once again, a huge thank you for all your years of service, Marlin.

Our 2026 Outdoor Event will be held June 12th, 13th, and 14th.
