A cohort for aspiring minority appraisers??? 🤔🤔

We complain about our homes being undervalued.
We talk about generational wealth.
We talk about the lack of representation in the appraisal industry.

But here’s the truth, we can’t keep talking if we’re not willing to put in the work.

The Black Appraisers of Louisville are considering launching a cohort for aspiring minority appraisers.

The appraisal industry impacts how much our homes are valued. Period‼️ We need more diversity and representation in the appraisal industry, in the rooms, and on the boards!

So I need to know…

“I Have a Dream…”

I have a dream that one day the appraisal profession will reflect the diversity of the communities it serves because justice in housing cannot exist without equity in valuation.

I have a dream that Black and Brown professionals will no longer face systemic barriers to entry, but instead have access to education, mentorship, resources, and funding, the very tools Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed were essential to economic justice.

Dr. King dreamed not only of racial equality, but of fair opportunity, economic dignity, and systems that work for everyone.
The mission of The Black Appraisers of Louisville is rooted in that same dream to dismantle barriers, expand access, and create pathways into an industry that directly impacts homeownership, lending, and generational wealth.

I have a dream that our youth will see the appraisal profession as attainable, respected, and powerful where their presence helps ensure fairness, accuracy, and representation in how value is determined.

On this MLK Day, I don’t just honor the dream I work toward it.
Through education, advocacy, and community, The Black Appraisers of Louisville exists to help make Dr. King’s vision of economic justice a lived reality.

The sketch is a critical part of the appraisal process that provides a visual reference, helps calculate the Gross Living Area (GLA), and identifies any irregularities in the structure. Sketched layouts are used for both the exterior of the main house and any additional structures, and modern appraisers may use software and mobile apps to create these sketches.
