Bourbon tourism is holding strong — and that’s good news for the entire supply chain.

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail® welcomed 2.7 million visitors in 2025, matching the previous year’s record-breaking visitation and reinforcing Bourbon’s role as one of Kentucky’s most resilient tourism drivers.

Visitors came from all 50 states, more than 20 countries, and six continents to experience the history, hospitality, and craftsmanship behind Kentucky Bourbon.

For ACIA, this story goes beyond tourism.

The History of the Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is one of America’s most iconic wh***ey cocktails — simple, timeless, and deeply connected to bourbon tradition.

Its roots date back to the early 1800s, when cocktails were commonly made with just a few essentials: spirits, sugar, bitters, and water. As more elaborate drinks became popular, wh***ey lovers began asking for their cocktail the “old-fashioned” way — and the name stuck.

Today, the Old Fashioned remains a classic because it lets the bourbon shine. The oak, caramel, vanilla, and spice notes developed during barrel aging are front and center in every sip.

Behind every great Old Fashioned is a great barrel. Cooperage craftsmanship helps shape the bourbon’s color, aroma, and flavor long before it ever reaches the glass.

Classic Old Fashioned Recipe
Ingredients:
• 2 oz bourbon
• 1 sugar cube or ½ oz simple syrup
• 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters
• Orange peel
• Ice
• Optional: cherry garnish

Instructions:
Add sugar and bitters to a rocks glass.
Muddle until dissolved, or use simple syrup.
Add bourbon and ice.
Stir until chilled.
Garnish with an orange peel and enjoy.
