🚨 Attention Restaurants, Food Trucks, Caterers, Grocery Stores & Anyone Who Serves Prepared Food in Virginia!

A major state law takes full effect on July 1.

If your business serves prepared food, even if you're a small business, you may be impacted by Virginia's expanded polystyrene (foam/Styrofoam®) container ban. The law applies to far more businesses than many people realize, including restaurants, food trucks, caterers, grocery stores, schools, nonprofits, and organizations that regularly serve food.

Does this affect your business—or someone you know?

Before July 1 arrives, take a few minutes to learn:
✅ Who is affected
✅ Which containers are prohibited
✅ What alternatives are available
✅ Whether exemptions may apply

Don't get caught off guard. Read the details here:
"Foam Phase-Out: Going Into Full Effect July 1" (https://cvwma.com/news/foam-phase-out-going-into-full-effect/)

Please share this with fellow business owners and food service organizations throughout Louisa County so everyone has time to prepare.

At our Annual Meeting & Businessperson of the Year Awards, 2025 Chamber Volunteer of the Year Julie Manzari presented the 2026 Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award to Kaitlyn King.

Over the past year, Kaitlyn has been a familiar face at Chamber events, ribbon cuttings, business programs, and leadership initiatives. From serving as Judge Coordinator for the National Civics Bee to supporting Leadership Louisa as a Class Host and attending nearly every ribbon cutting throughout the year, she has invested countless hours into strengthening connections, celebrating local businesses, and advancing the mission of the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce and Louisa Forward Foundation.

Her commitment to serving our members, supporting our programs, and championing our community has made a meaningful difference throughout the year.

Congratulations, Kaitlyn, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for all you do for Louisa County! 🎉

Partnership creates possibilities.

At our Annual Meeting last week, we recognized Piedmont Virginia Community College as the 2026 Chamber Partner of the Year, with 2025 recipient Rappahannock Electric Cooperative.

PVCC has been a valued partner in strengthening workforce development, leadership growth, and educational opportunity throughout our region. From helping grow the Spring Swing Invitational into one of our largest annual events, to supporting Leadership Louisa, serving on the Workforce Council, hosting the Virginia Chamber's Blueprint Virginia Region 9 gathering, their impact can be seen across many of the initiatives that help move our community forward.

Strong communities are built when organizations work together around a shared vision, and PVCC continues to demonstrate that commitment through meaningful engagement, leadership, and collaboration.

Please join us in congratulating Piedmont Virginia Community College on this well-deserved recognition! 🎉

👀 Want a front-row seat to leadership in action?

Join us on Tuesday, June 16 as we celebrate the Leadership Louisa Class of 2026 and the 5th Anniversary of a program that continues to connect people, strengthen organizations, and invest in the future of Louisa County.

One of the highlights of the afternoon is the Community Action Project Pitch Competition, where class members will present ideas developed to support four local organizations: Brackett's Farm, Louisa Arts Center , Louisa County Resource Council and Miss Louisa Organization. It's always inspiring to see what can happen when talented people come together to tackle real community opportunities.

Then we'll celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2026 and recognize five years of Leadership Louisa alumni who continue to make an impact through their businesses, organizations, and service to our community.

Whether you're considering Leadership Louisa for yourself, an employee, or simply want to learn more about the program, this is a great opportunity to meet alumni, connect with community leaders, and experience the program firsthand.

🔒 This morning's Business Boost with Blue Ridge Bank delivered a powerful reminder: protecting your business isn't just about technology, it's about habits, processes, and awareness.

Here are 10 takeaways every business owner should consider:

1️⃣ Verify Before You Pay
Never update banking information or pay a new invoice based solely on an email. Call a trusted contact and verify the request.

2️⃣ Business Accounts Play by Different Rules
Many business owners are surprised to learn that business accounts often have fewer fraud protections than personal accounts. Prevention matters.

3️⃣ Train Your Team
One employee clicking a link or updating payment information without verification can create significant financial losses. Make fraud awareness part of your culture.

4️⃣ Move Away from Paper When Possible
Electronic payments and ACH transactions can provide greater security, tracking, and visibility than traditional paper checks.

5️⃣ Think Twice Before Mailing Checks
Mail theft and check fraud continue to increase. Evaluate safer payment options whenever available.

6️⃣ Go Paperless with Statements
Bank statements contain valuable account information. Electronic statements help reduce the risk of mail theft and unauthorized access.

7️⃣ Review Your Accounts Regularly
Don't wait until month-end. Review transactions frequently and investigate anything that seems unusual.

8️⃣ Set Up Banking Alerts
Real-time notifications for large transactions, ACH activity, and check clearances can help identify issues quickly.

9️⃣ Review Your Insurance Coverage
Cyber theft, business email compromise, employee fraud, and other modern threats may require additional coverage. Ask questions and review your policies annually.

🔟 Build Your Fraud Prevention Team
Your banker, accountant, insurance agent, and key staff members all play a role in protecting your business. Strong businesses surround themselves with trusted advisors.
