Still feeling the impact of an unforgettable gathering 💫

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Bahá’í Center of San Jose, we came together for Stilettos & Sneakers — a powerful celebration of women’s participation, perseverance, and leadership in sports.

Your presence helped bring this vision to life. From storytelling and meaningful dialogue to cultural expression, we explored how sport goes beyond competition — becoming a platform for equity, representation, and collective accountability.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up with intention, voice, and purpose. Special thanks to Council Member Michael Mulcahy and his wife for joining us, as well as our incredible volunteers and the Bahá’í Center for their unwavering support.

As we continue celebrating Women’s History Month and the spirit of International Women’s Day, Women in Action remains more than an event — it is a movement rooted in impact.

A moment of honor. A moment of impact. A moment for our community. ✨

On Monday, March 16th, Folake Phillips, Founder & Executive Director of AWỌ, was recognized as one of 80 women across the State of California at the State Capitol as a 2026 California Woman of the Year 🇺🇸🌟

Honored by Assembly Member Gail Pellerin (District 28)—member of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus and Chair of the Elections Committee—Folake was celebrated during a beautiful Floor Ceremony. She walked down the aisle alongside her, pausing to wave to the gallery where Avis Ovoss, President of the Sacramento Association of Nigerians, stood in proud support and applause 👏🏾🇳🇬

This moment is more than recognition—it’s a reflection of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to community.

Folake, we celebrate you. We appreciate you. We honor you. 💐

Your work reminds us that uplifting women and advancing representation, equity, and inclusion is not a one-time act—but a continuous movement.

Join us March 14, 2026 at the Bahá’í Center of San Jose for a dynamic gathering highlighting women in sports, leadership, wellness, and community.

👟 Meet our inspiring panelists:

🏀 Kaiija Lesane – A Division I athlete and entrepreneur driven by faith and purpose. Through basketball and leadership, she is passionate about empowering women to dream boldly, push past limitations, and step fully into their potential.

💪 Grace Henderson – A wellness and fitness creator inspiring others to build strength physically and mentally. Through her journey of discipline and healthy living, she encourages women to pursue growth, confidence, and purpose.

🏀 Juan F. Galey – CEO of 1 Vision Academy and Assistant Coach at San Jose City College. With years of experience mentoring young athletes, he is dedicated to helping youth discover their passion and develop confidence on and off the court.
