Queen's Best Stumpy Dog Rescue is a Southern California-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides rescue, sanctuary and training for special needs corgis. We provide them with medical and behavioral rehabilitation before adopting them into “furever” homes. We strive to find families that will be lifelong companions to our dogs and promote responsible pet ownership. Queen's Best Stumpy Dog Rescue's mission is to rescue special needs corgis from California's high kill shelters. We place great emphasis on medical care and rehabilitating our dogs through socialization and relationship based balanced training until their "furever" home is found. All contributions are put towards the needs of our dogs. All adoptions are on a “foster-to-adopt” basis, requiring application, interview, home check, completion of a 2day training, contract, and adoption fee at the time of adoption completion. This is to ensure that our dogs go to safe, loving, "furever" homes, where the dog and the family are the right match for each other. We strive to find families that will be lifelong companions and leaders to our dogs. TO DONATE:

Our sweet lumpy lady Stevie, needs your help! Unfortunately, a small mass on the side of her face has ruptured, requiring her to go back into surgery. When we pulled her from the shelter, she was covered in masses, and has already had 6 removed. We knew she’d need to have the others removed at some point, and sadly, that time came sooner that we expected. She’s heading back into surgery with Dr. Stone tomorrow to have it removed, along with a few others. Please donate towards our medical fund so Stevie can get the care she needs. 🙏

Update on Stevie:
We’re so happy to share that Stevie’s pathology results came back as benign!! 🙌🙌🙌

When Stevie found herself at SEAACA, she wasn’t just in a loud, scary, overcrowded shelter where her life was on the line - she was dealing with a large, ulcerated mass on the back of her neck that had been growing for a very long time. While at the shelter, she also caught kennel cough that took two rounds of antibiotics to clear up. Girl was going through it. Once the KC cleared and she was given the green light, we were able to get her scheduled for surgery to be spayed, have multiple masses removed, and get a dental cleaning.

To everyone’s surprise, Dr. Stone discovered that Stevie was already spayed, which ended up being a blessing in disguise, as it left extra time to remove additional masses from Stevie’s lumpy body, and complete her dental cleaning, all in one go. Stevie had a total of 6 masses removed - one behind her neck, on her shoulder, chest, groin, outer leg, and a mammary tumor. Stevie’s currently recovering in her foster home with foster mom Michelle, and taking it easy until she can resume her normal activity.

Stevie’s a chonky lady, weighing in at 45lbs. For her size and frame, she’ll need to take off 10-12lbs to get to a healthy weight and ease the pressure on her joints. She’s believed to be 5-7yrs old, and a cattle dog/corgi mix. If there’s one consistent thing that’s said by everyone that’s met Stevie, it’s that she’s SUCH a sweet, easy going girl. She has the type of temperament every dog parent dreams of.

We can’t thank everyone enough for donating towards our medical fund, and making it possible to give Stevie and other dogs like her, much needed care. If you’re looking for an easy, beginner level dog, Stevie’s your girl. We can’t wait for her to heal and find her furever home! ❤️

- in their new home!! 🙌

We’re so pleased to share that Charley has been adopted by a wonderful couple in Northern California! He’ll be living the snowbird (snow corgi?) life, traveling between his new home in Roseville and Lake Tahoe! His new corgparents have had corgis before, and were adamant about wanting an older dog as a senior couple themselves - something we wholly agree with and commend them for being responsible about.

After arriving to his new home, time was spent teaching Charley’s new corgparents the 5 rules and boundaries, and everything they needed to know about him, his routine, and how to develop a healthy relationship with him. Some new behaviors around small animals emerged, so time was spent desensitizing Charley to the backyard cat. By the end of the session, he and kitty were coexisting, and Charley was so proud of himself!

In Charley’s first home, he was a companion dog to a senior couple before they sadly passed away. He wasn’t able to get much socialization before, but in this next chapter in life, Charley will have the opportunity to get the continued socialization and life experiences every dog deserves. He has plenty of walks around his neighborhood and adventures in Lake Tahoe to look forward to, and gets to fall right back into being a companion dog around the garden and home. He’s already getting acclimated to his new environment, taking in all the smells, and finding cool spots to take naps.

Historically speaking, some of the hardest dogs to find homes for has been senior dogs, but there was something about Charley that captured many hearts. We were floored by the number of interested parties he had! Maybe it was his story, big smile, sweet demeanor, and temperament. Not having a bite history certainly helped! As a senior corgi, he got the most applications we’ve ever received for a single dog, which gives us so much hope for future seniors. It’s a team effort to help low-riders in need find homes. A huge thank you to Charley’s foster Andy, for being his stepping stone, Rick for transporting Charley, Jackie and Morgan for completing the homecheck, and our placement coordinator Jen, for helping review apps!

Cheers, congratulations, and many happy nubs to Charley and his new family!! ♥️🐾

Old man Corey got his first injection of Adequan at his appointment today. He’ll be getting an injection every week for the first four weeks, followed by once every month. He’s been on Galliprant, glucosamine, and tramadol as needed, but X-rays showed the arthritis in his left shoulder is progressing, so he’s also getting gabapentin added to the mix, and will remain on HepatoSupport for his liver health. The bones in his forearms are also wearing down, so we’ll continue to monitor that in case it could be cancer.

At 16yrs old, he’s lived an active life with many games of fetch that’s likely contributed to the wear on his joints. He’s always been a morning dog, but lately he’s been slower getting up. Anyone that knows Corey knows he’s happiest with a ball in his mouth (that OBD -obsessive ball disorder doesn’t ever go away), or when he’s wind surfing on a car ride.

As hard as it is to see our dogs age, these types of geriatric issues are to be expected. We have no control over what a dog’s orthopedic health is going to look like, especially when we have no idea who bred them, but what is in our control is their weight, their dental health, and their life experiences. We’re religious about yearly dental cleanings, which have helped him maintain good heart health and kidney health, and we’ll always advocate for a lean corgi over a chonky corgi.

At this stage in life, the best we can do for Corey is monitor his pain management, movement, and make sure he stays at a lean weight. It’s all about quality over quantity over here, so listening to what he and his body tell us are top priority. Since it looks like we need to retire the ball, we’re gonna have to get Corey’s bucketlist ride in an e-bike sidecar scheduled sooner rather than later. If you happen to have an e-bike with a side car or bike with a trailer and would like to give some extra wind surfing adventures, we know he would love and appreciate it!

Looks like , Bowie, might be going through another flare up. The color and texture of his p**p has changed a bit, and he’s not as plump as he used to be, even with the same amount of food. He has a follow-up with his internist next month at ASG. Until then, games are being kept short, which he isn’t thrilled about. Really hoping his prednisone dosage doesn’t need to be increased, otherwise he’ll be dealing with the return of roid rage and even more thirst and p*e breaks. If you’ve ever been on prednisone, you know how much it messes with the body, but when it’s the most effective medication for inflammation, you do what you gotta do. 😪

HEADS UP Y’ALL - We’ve recently been spammed in the comments of our posts with links to this fraudulent website selling shirts with our name and logo. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ANY OF THEIR MERCHANDISE! This is in no way affiliated with us. Official QBSDR shirts and merch is only available through our direct website and from our booth at events. It’s getting wilder, crazier, and scarier out there. Scammers are getting bolder and many are targeting rescue organizations and y’all’s animal loving hearts. We’ve had multiple attempts in various forms now, so be careful and don’t just send your money anywhere or buy impulsively!

Of all the dogs we’ve had come through our rescue, hands down, best recall award goes to Oliver. He’s always impressed with his ability to call away from dogs and distractions. Some dogs just thrive on learning commands and working, and Oliver’s one of them. Relationship is key. We have an exciting update to share about this boy, so stay tuned!

Are you experiencing behavioral issues or considering surrendering your corgi? QBSDR is making the transition from INTERVENTION to PREVENTION by providing a safe environment to gain tools, knowledge, and information in order to set up both you and your doggo for success! QBSDR’s philosophy and methodology is relationship-based balanced training to cultivate a healthy relationship of TRUST and RESPECT between you and your dog. At the end of this workshop, we hope that you feel empowered and ready to work through the issues you are experiencing to keep your beloved corgi.

During the hands-on, two-day workshop (Saturday + Sunday, 9am-5pm, includes break for lunch) you and your corgi will learn the Fundamental 5 Rules and Boundaries that we implement for every single dog that comes through our rescue. Corgis are a working breed and need structure in their lives to thrive. Consistency is key so we do recommend all members in the household attend.

If your dog is showing signs of dog or human aggression, we ask that you take the time to muzzle train prior to attending to keep everyone safe. We suggest a Baskerville Ultra basket muzzle (size 2 for standard/smaller corgis, size 3 for larger corgis). This muzzle is readily available at most pet stores and online. We are happy to talk you through the muzzle-training process, just reach out and we’ll set up a time for a call.

If you are interested in attending a this workshop, please email [email protected] for more information.
