Test your smoke alarms monthly. If yours is 10 years or older, it's time to replace it. Most people don't realize alarms have an expiration date.

This week our partners at North Memorial Health brought out an ambulance & medic helicopter for a training night with all three West Suburban Fire District stations.

We train with the North Memorial crew — because when a call comes in, we’re often working together. The better we know each other’s operations, the better we serve our communities.

West Suburban Fire District responded to 78 calls in July.

42 EMS | 12 Fire + Hazmat | 24 Public Service

July was a busy one, on and off the fire ground. Between calls, our crews were out in the community at the Hamel Rodeo & Bull Ridin' Bonanza, National Night Out, fire safety presentations at local schools and childcare centers, and neighborhood stops across our district.

Behind every number is a neighbor who needed help and a team that showed up. And behind every community event is a crew that believes showing up goes beyond emergency response.

Thank you to our members for another strong month and thank you to our communities for welcoming us in.

West Suburban Fire District paid a visit to Little Munchkins in Maple Plain last week for a fire safety presentation.

We covered the basics every child should know:

• If there's a fire and you're out of the house, stay out
• Never hide from a firefighter — they are there to help you
• Have a home escape plan and a family meeting place
