Everyone meet Louie !!
Today God reminded me that kindness still matters.
Today was one of those moments that stays with you forever.
My friend Donna was actually the one who spotted a man sitting behind a tree. Without hesitation, she walked over to him alone just to check on him and speak to him with kindness. I remember looking around wondering where Donna had gone, and then I noticed her talking to a man in the distance. As I got closer, I suddenly realized who she was speaking to. While Donna was gently asking him what his name was, I walked up and said, “Louie?”
I used to work with Louie at Denny’s years ago, and seeing him homeless honestly broke my heart. I remember him as one of the hardest workers there — always showing up, always helping others, always carrying a good attitude no matter what he was going through. The kind of person who worked with integrity even when nobody was watching. Life can change so quickly for any of us.
Today I got the opportunity to bless him with a backpack filled with love — essentials, comfort, and a reminder that he has not been forgotten. But truthfully, I think he blessed me more than I blessed him.
As I handed it to him, I couldn’t stop thinking about how easy it is for the world to overlook people once they fall on hard times. But God never overlooks anybody.
Sometimes we look at people struggling and only see their current situation, but God sees the person underneath it all — the worker, the friend, the father, the human being deserving of dignity and compassion.
Today was one of those moments that humbles your heart and reminds you how important it is to love people where they are
Life has a way of changing people’s circumstances in ways we never expect. One season someone can be working right beside you, and another season they can be fighting just to survive.
Please remember: homelessness does not erase someone’s worth. Some of the strongest, kindest people are carrying battles we could never imagine.
Before this event happened, I had been struggling with feelings of inadequacy and questioning myself. I kept wondering, “What would I even say to people out here hurting?” But God is so good and so intentional with His plans for us. He already knew exactly what this moment would be before we ever got there. He provided the exact person and the exact words Donna and I needed to speak to him.
I’m grateful God allowed us to be a small light in someone’s dark moment tonight. I pray that backpack carried more than supplies — I pray it carried hope, love, and the reminder that someone still sees him, still believes in him, and behind every homeless person is a story, a life, a heart, and often someone who once worked hard, loved deeply, and dreamed big.
Today I’m grateful God allowed us to be a blessing to someone who once showed up and worked hard alongside me all those years ago. Kindness costs so little, but to someone hurting, it can mean everything.
