On June 4th, PETA released deeply disturbing, undercover video footage of an investigation into Creekside Birds, LLC, an Oklahoma based, parakeet breeding mill where between 4,000 - 10,000 birds are living and dying under the most horrific conditions imaginable. Here we are attaching the links to this investigation. WARNING: the abuse is graphic and deeply disturbing. Please do not view the material if you are sensitive to graphic violence against animals and may have a difficult time processing what has been exposed here. Please note that World Animal Protection US released similar, horrific undercover parrot mill footage in February of this year. We need everyone to understand that this is the reality of the pet parrot trade. When you purchase birds on the commercial market this is where these birds come from, and there are dozens of bird mills just like this in operation in the U.S. And to be clear - yes, these facilities are indeed regulated and inspected by the USDA, which systematically signs off on the abuse and continues to license these abusers despite how egregiously they violate the Animal Welfare Act. There is no enforcement of the law. When we work to initiate legislation to ban the sale of parrots in pet stores, these are the true targets. We are seeking to cut off the cruelty pipeline. When pet store retailers, breeders and the avicultural community oppose and fight our efforts, this is what they are fighting to protect.
