Gov. Polis proclaimed May is Wildfire Awareness Month. Colorado is entering the 2026 wildfire season with significant drought, low snowpack and higher temperatures.

Wildfires can spread with quickly, especially during high winds and dry conditions. In some cases, fires move up to 14 mph and evacuation orders happen within an hour of ignition. 💨

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has issued an EVACUATION ORDER for 1/2 mile radius from 20710 Outback Vw due to a FIRE near 20700 Block. Everyone in this area is ordered to EVACUATE NOW.

Extreme wind warnings in affect in Colorado today 💨

Strong winds often mean elevated wildfire risk in Colorado. Wind can spread fires quickly, leading to sudden evacuations.

UPDATE: The is no longer spreading!

A pre-evacuation notice has been issued for a fire in Jefferson County. If you need help evacuating your horses, request to be contacted with a driver at HorseAlert.org. Jefferson County drivers currently registered have a trailering capacity to evauate 118 horses.
