Hi, I'm Patty Rickman — author, domestic violence advocate, survivor, and Executive Producer of the documentary adaptation of "A Safe Space to Land".
Truth doesn't require permission to survive. It outlasts silence. It outlasts power. It outlasts every system that tried to bury it.
I wrote A Safe Space to Land because too many survivors are navigating courtrooms, institutions, and legal systems alone — without knowing the rights that exist specifically to protect them. This book exists to change that. To hand survivors the tools, the language, and the knowledge to stand in their own truth — documented, protected, and unafraid.
Because every survivor deserves to know they are not alone. Every survivor deserves access to the laws built for them. And every survivor deserves a safe space to land."
In my memoir I speak openly about my experience navigating a system where sworn testimony conflicted with adjudicated public record — including two guilty pleas entered in two separate courts for criminal charges including stalking, terroristic threatening, and multiple Protection from Abuse violations across the state of Delaware with multiple other victims across the state.
I write about due process. I write about what it means when a PFA petition doesn't match live testimony given under oath. I write about the right every survivor has to request recusal when impartiality can reasonably be questioned. I write about what it means to become your own lighthouse when the system fails you.
And then I teach.
I teach survivors how to find their voice. How to ask the right questions. How to communicate with their legislators. How to understand the laws built to protect them — because knowing your rights is not a privilege. These laws were created to protect survivors. Full stop.
I teach every survivor regardless of gender, identity, background, or diagnosis. No one is excluded here.
I also created an APP prototype and based on current research, an app that combines legal rights education, courtroom self-advocacy tools, due process guidance, recusal rights, and legislative communication skills all in a single survivor-facing platform is rare. I built one. The prototype (pass code to enter is 1234) is available now at asafespacetoland.com built directly for survivors, in plain language, from lived experience. ADA protections and accommodations for survivors living with PTSD and C-PTSD are actively being developed and will be integrated when the full app goes live.
📖 The Book — Raw. Documented. True.
🎬 The Documentary — Promo available now. Two more promos dropping soon. Full project in talks to expand into a 7-part series.
📱 The App Survivor tools, legal guidance, and self-advocacy resources. Prototype live now.
