Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday’s neighborhood meeting and took the time to learn about recycling and refuse waste removal. Your participation and engagement mean so much, and it truly helps strengthen our community’s understanding of proper waste practices.

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to Anthony from the City for educating us about the recent updates to recycling and refuse collection. His presentation was very informative and clarified many important points for our residents.

A thank you as well to CD8 Chief of Staff, Franbert, for providing updates on the North Long Beach areas and the Atlantic Corridors. We value the continued partnership and communication that help keep our neighborhood informed and connected.

A special thank you to Blanca and Jorge for hosting and opening your home for our meeting. We truly appreciate your kindness and generosity. The special “Day of the Dead” bread you prepared, along with the freshly brewed coffee, made the gathering even more welcoming and meaningful. Thank you so much for everything you did to support our neighborhood.

Thank you again to all who joined us. Your involvement makes a difference, and we look forward to seeing you at future meetings and events.

Today, within the boundaries of the North Village Neighborhood Association, several ICE operations occurred during the exact time of our monthly neighborhood meeting. These actions caused fear, confusion, and disruption for our residents. Fortunately, District 8’s Chief of Staff was present as our guest speaker and took immediate action to address the situation. We also learned that one of our residents — a U.S. citizen — was detained. Councilwoman Tunua Thrash-Ntuk has been in communication with the family, and we appreciate her responsiveness.

The North Village Neighborhood Association has never tolerated unreasonable, unsafe, or unlawful operations by ICE or any other authority. Our community is made up of families, seniors, workers, and children who simply seek peaceful daily life and safety in our own neighborhood. Any form of violence, intimidation, or discriminatory enforcement is unacceptable.

We ask the City of Long Beach to take immediate and transparent action to protect its residents — all residents — regardless of background, language, or immigration status. Our neighborhoods deserve to live without fear. We expect accountability, oversight, and clear communication from every agency operating within our community.

North Village stands united in advocating for safety, dignity, and respect for every person who calls this area home.

The North Village Neighborhood Meeting is tomorrow, Saturday, 10/17, at 10:00 AM at 260 E. Norton St., Long Beach, CA 90805.

We’ll have guest speakers (flyer attached), updates on safety and improvement items, updates on the Atlantic Corridor, a request for Councilwoman’s view on recent item 29, and more with CD8.

Thank You for Making Our Community Cleanup a Success!
On behalf of the North Village Neighborhood Association, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who volunteered for our Community Cleanup Event on September 26.
Without the dedication and hard work of each volunteer, this event would not have been possible. Thank you for taking the time to help make our community cleaner, safer, and more beautiful.

We would like to offer special thanks to the City of Long Beach Public Works Department and Long Beach Development Services for their continued support and for providing the tools, supplies, and commercial-sized dumpsters that made this event possible.

A huge thank you also goes to the Conservation Corps, whose team worked tirelessly throughout the area collecting large discarded items and helping transport debris. And the Volunteer Center for recruiting and providing enthusiastic youth volunteers.

This year, we were very proud to collaborate with the Uptown BID!! A big shout-out to their tremendous help!! Their partnership brought tremendous support and community involvement. Not to mention, they brought two mobile potty booths and a hand-washing station! We are especially grateful to our local business and community partners:

- Rivera's Tacos for generously donating free tacos for our volunteers.
- Long Beach Water Department for providing fresh drinking water.
- Alert Response Security Protection for securing the event area and supporting dumpster placement.
- Care Closet and Clean Windows & Services for volunteering their time and effort.

We also want to thank our CD8 representative, Akua, for supporting our community and taking part in this important effort.

Together, nearly 50 volunteers collected an incredible 4,360 pounds of trash and debris. In addition, we removed more than two tons of bulky waste, including over 30 mattresses, more than 20 refrigerators, and countless electronic waste items from our neighborhoods.
These results demonstrate what we can accomplish when our community comes together with a shared purpose.

As we celebrate this success, we would also like to remind everyone that illegal dumping continues to be a challenge in our neighborhoods. Please help keep our streets and alleys clean by reporting discarded items through the Go Long Beach App. The service is free and allows residents to request pickup of items such as mattresses, sofas, tables, appliances, and other bulky waste. There is no charge for reporting these items, and your participation helps keep our community clean and safe.

If you see illegally dumped items in an alley or on a sidewalk, please do not hesitate to report them using the Go Long Beach App.

Let's continue working together to keep North Village and North Long Beach clean, welcoming, and a place we can all take pride in.

We’re excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for the third cohort of our Long Beach Fire Corps Program! 🚒🔥

Led by our Workforce Development team, in partnership with the Long Beach Fire Department, this seven-month program will offer young people ages 18 to 30 with hands-on work experience within the Fire Department. The program will consist of monthly workshops and professional trainings such as CPR certification and Community Emergency Response Team Training, known as CERT. Interns will work within the Fire Prevention Bureau’s Community Services Division to support communications-related activities and special events.

Participants will be compensated $22 per hour for up to 450 hours. Priority will be given to Long Beach City residents.

A virtual information session will be held for those interested in the program on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
