🌉⭐ HAPPY ADMISSION DAY, CALIFORNIA! ⭐🌉

On this day in 1850, California entered the Union as the 31st state — skipping territorial status entirely and joining the nation directly as a state, a distinction shared by only a few others in our history.

As members of the El Redondo Chapter, NSDAR, we celebrate the rich heritage of our Golden State, home to patriots, pioneers, and the generations who built the communities we serve today. From the Gold Rush to the present, California’s story is woven into the fabric of American history.

Happy 176th Birthday, California! 🇺🇸

Waves of Flags A Pepperdine Tradition

Each September, Pepperdine University stages the Waves of Flags display honoring the lives lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, with nearly 3,000 flags in Alumni Park along Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road—one for each innocent victim, including a national flag for each foreign country that lost a citizen in the attack.

The display educates people about the history of our country and the overwhelming sacrifices that heroic men and women have made to keep it safe, prosperous, and free.

Our September speaker is a former high school teacher whose love for history led her to join the DAR in 2020, where she has found numerous ways to serve, as our Four Founders envisioned.

Her program, “The Four Founders of the DAR,” tells the surprising stories of the four women who founded our organization in1890.

When she began her research she expected to find four wealthy women with time on their hands to do charity work. Instead, she found “a widowed single mother, a domestic-violence survivor, an impoverished Southern belle, and a poor relation of America’s first president.” (Women of Vision by Noel Marie Fletcher).

Jenn has visited the graves of all four founders and offers a personal and intimate look at their lives. I know you will enjoy her 30 minute presentation!
